Sergio Garcia +605 is hosting the tournament this week and also happens to be the betting favorite. This year’s Spanish Open is geared towards the Sergio Garcia Foundation and the veteran was able to attract a few star players including major winner Martin Kaymer +2250, Andy Sullivan +1800 and fellow Spaniard Rafa Cabrera- Bello +1415.
The field isn’t bad considering last week was the first major of the year and a lot of players are resting. It does lack star power but the depth is pretty solid with players like Chris Wood +3850, Soren Kjeldsen +1615, Peter Uihlein +4550, Thomas Pieters +3100 and Ross Fisher +4000, all of whom have tasted victory on the European Tour.
Here’s what Martin Kaymer told europeantour.com about the 6,991-yard par 71, Real Club Vaderrama, which is the host track this week: “It is very challenging from the tee. You need to hit all kinds of tee shots: fades, draws, low, high and even when you hit the fairway you can be blocked by trees. So you need to have a good strategy for the golf course. The greens are very small so it is all about ball striking - it is never going to be a putting competition. Any day, if you shoot something around par it is a very good score, but shooting a round of 68 or 75 can be very close together, so that is the exciting part about Valderrama.” Looks to me like a great ball-striker will have the edge this week.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The player to keep your eye on this week is Soren Kjeldsen +1615. He is fresh off his surprising T7 at the Masters and this course is perfect for his game - fairways and greens! Kjeldsen won this tournament in 2008 and the host course that year - you guessed it, Real Club Valderrama - this week’s track.
One player to shy away from is Andy Sullivan +1800. Augusta National ate him up last week with rounds of 80-77 to miss the cut. He is making his first start at Real Club Valderrama and his record playing in Spain is not good, missing his last three cuts. Fade the smiling Sullivan!
Another player who will struggle this week is Pablo Larrazabal +7500. He ranks near the bottom of driving accuracy and that’s not good around Real Club Valderrama. He will struggle to make the cut and disappoint his hometown fans. If Larrazabal is in the board, bet AGAINST him in the weekly golf betting matchups.
