The British Masters returns to the European Tour International Schedule after a seven-year absence. Tournament host Ian Poulter +1975 is joined by tournament favorite Shane Lowry +1615, Luke Donald +2625, Lee Westwood +4050 and Graeme McDowell +2150 in a Pro-am format that see’s amateurs paired with the professionals over the first two days of competition.

Other notable names in the world-class field include Ireland’s Major Champions, Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington, Italy’s Francesco Molinari +1975 and Welshman Jamie Donaldson +2075. In all, five Major Champions, two former World Number Ones and 22 Ryder Cup players are scheduled to tee it up this week at Woburn Golf Club.

Poulter grew up near Woburn Golf Club and is excited for the week to begin, saying, ““Woburn is a great venue. Everyone will love the course – the staff do a super job, and it’s always in great condition. I’m very happy to see the tournament back on the schedule, and even happier to see it back at Woburn.”

At the other end of the experience spectrum is their fellow Irishman Paul Dunne, who impressed on his professional debut in last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The 22 year old, who shared the lead heading into the final round of The Open Championship at St Andrews in July, is making his second start as a professional.

After battling a nagging back injury, Jamie Donaldson +2075 is healthy again and ready to make a surge in the Race to Dubai standings. The Welshman has found his form again with a T5 in the Porsche European Open and a T13 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship a week ago. His ball striking is back and all he needs is for some putts to drop. “I really like Woburn as a course, it’s great,” he told Europeantour.com. “It’s tree-lined, tight, and a traditional British course.”

Danny Willett +1985 is having a breakout year. He is second in the Race to Dubai standings and picked up two wins earlier in the year, but his current form is a concern and this course is a concern for how Willett is driving the ball. He is currently 165th in the season-long Driving Accuracy stats and that won’t cut in on a track that is one of the tightest on the European Tour. I am staying away from Willett this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +3250 is one of the straightest drivers on the European Tour and that will serve him well this week at Woburn Golf Club where the driving areas are tight. The former U.S. Amateur champ is 9th in Driving Accuracy this season. Before last week’s missed cut in Scotland, he’d posted a second and two top threes in his five previous stroke-play events so he has strong credentials in an event played on his home English turf. This could be the week he finally breaks through and gets his first win on the European Tour.
