Last week in Spain, no one in the field broke par, last year, at the Shenzhen International, 50 players broke par, so we will see some birdies and eagles this week at Genzon Golf Club. The host venue requires length off the tee and a strong iron game.
The big draw this week is Bubba Watson +585. No one really knows how much appearance fee money Watson is getting to play, but my guess would be at least $2 million. He also played last year where he disappointed most with a T29. Watson is the betting favorite but will be challenged by a few others; Joost Luiten +1450, Victor Dubuisson +2550, Ross Fisher +1800 and Peter Uihlein +2500 all are playing this week.
Dubuisson is making his first start at this event and is excited about his chances, “I’m looking forward to getting started,” said Dubuisson, who starred for Europe at the Ryder Cup two years ago at Gleneagles. “Coming to play in Asia is always a great experience, and to play a new tournament for me is exciting. The field is very strong, which is important. To test yourself you need to play against the best players in the game.”
I would have to disagree with Dubuisson’s assessment that the field is strong, it’s not!

Do not waste your time on Bubba Watson +585 this week. He missed the cut in his last start at the Masters. He is getting paid to go over there to play, therefore, he has no motivation this week and his game shows with another lackluster performance in China. Something isn’t clicking in Watson’s game or attitude, so stay away!
Joost Luiten +1450 is on a mission to make the Ryder Cup team this year. He continues to churn out top ten’s and is poised to make a run this week on a course that suits his game. He has made his last ten cuts, six of those top 20’s. The Dutchman needs to take advantage of the weaker fields this time of year and churn out another top five finish.
The driving areas are wide this week and a bomber is likely to win. American Peter Uihlein +2500 is quietly having a very good year. He recently changed his swing and it’s starting to pay off. Uihlein hits it a mile and the generous driving areas will bode well for his game.
