The European Tour heads to Morocco for the 2016 Trophee Hassan II. This was the event which had become famous in recent years for taking place inside the Royal Palace walls in Agadir. The king used to come to the gates at the Golf du Palais Royal with his key and let the players in.
However, this year it moves back to Royal Golf Dar EsSalam which hosted the event for the first and only time in 2010, so we have very little course form to go on, other then that Rhys Davies won the event that year.
This is the 43rd year of the tournament but only the seventh with official European Tour status.
This year’s betting field is the weakest thus far on the European Tour. The highest ranked player is Dean Burmester, at No. 97, and many of you probably have never heard of him. Alexander Levy +1325, Alejandro Canizares +1600 and Romain Wattel +2000 are the favorites.

ODDS ANALYSIS
South Africans do well in Morocco and the only time they played at this week’s venue, Louis Oosthuizen won. Dean Burmester +3050 missed the cut last week but fits the mold of the player I am searching for this week. Burmester is South African, hits the ball a mile and is poised for another top five, if not a win, this week in Morocco.
With the lackluster field in Morocco, a rookie or a no-name is primed to step it up this week and grab the trophy. Paul Dunne +2350 has played well in spurts in 2016 and I have an inkling that this may be his week. The young Irish rookie makes his first start on Moroccan soil but he’s playing every week’s course for the first time and he’s adapted well to new venues this year, positing T9 at Joburg in South Africa, T13 at Torrey Pines in California and T16 at Valderrama in Spain. Dunne is a solid pick.
If you’re looking for a long-shot special, Eddie Pepperell +4050 is your man. He’s been struggling most of the year, but has made 4 of 5 cuts and needs a few strong performances to get his confidence back and get his season going.
