Defending champion George Coetzee +725 and major champion Charl Schwartzel +525 headline the field that needs some other star power in order for it to remain apart of the European Tour schedule. This is one of the weakest fields on the European Tour and more or less a South African Open - almost the entire field are South Africans. The event needs to either find another date, or attract better players in order for it to stick and retain sponsors moving forward.
The list is short of players that will contend this week. Brett Rumford +3250 and young guns Haydn Porteous +3050 and Trevor Fisher, Jr. +2050 all could find the winner’s circle this week.
Pretoria Country Club will host the event for the second consecutive year. The venue is a short 6,830-yard par 70 parkland course which is over 100 years old. Hall of Famer Gary Player re-designed the course in 2004 and made it much tougher than the original design. The fairways are fairly narrow in places while the greens are small and undulating. Last year only two players were able to reach double digits under par.

ODDS ANALYSIS
Englishman David Horsey +3550 has played a limited schedule so far in 2016 but he is 3 for 3 in made cuts and although he hasn’t cracked the top ten in any of his starts, that will all change this week. He finished T10 here last year and has cracked the top ten in three of his last seven starts in South Africa.
Charl Schwartzel vs. George Coetzee
With the weak field, this is going to be a weekly matchup. Schwartzel is the favorite but it will be Coetzee who comes out on top. Coetzee grew up on this course, is fully recovered from last year’s injury and is playing some great golf of late with three made cuts in a row and a top ten finish. Coetzee wins this power matchup.
Haydn Porteous is a promising 21-year old who earlier this year picked up his first win on the European Tour but this week the course is short and tight and doesn’t fit his game. Last year he shot 80-73 to miss the cut and even though this year his game is in much better form, the tight course will again get the best of him. Fade Porteous!
