George Coetzee leads the field for the Tshwane Open this week in South Africa. The world’s top players are either in Mexico or taking the week off, so this European Tour event does not have a strong field. Coetzee is the favorite at odds of +1085, while Alexander Bjork is the second choice at odds of +1659. We went 3-2 last week with the matchups at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters last week. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Tshwane Open.

Tshwane Open Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Pretoria Country Club Course is a par 71 that measures just 7,081 yards and it is at altitude. Distance off the tee is not the overriding stat to consider this week. Accuracy off the tee and being familiar with South African courses are the big factors this week. Coetzee has been a member at Pretoria since he was 10 years old, so it is hard to get more familiar with the course than Coetzee is.
George Coetzee -160 vs. Julian Suri
Coetzee won this title three years ago and he has a ton of experience at Pretoria, as he grew up playing the course. It is always somewhat risky taking Coetzee because he rarely wins, but this field is weak and I don’t trust Suri at all. He will be playing in South Africa for the third time in his career and he wasn’t that impressive in his previous two attempts.
Scott Jamieson +105 vs. Andrea Pavan
Jamieson has a win and five other top six finishes in his 33 starts in South Africa and the surrounding region. He played well a couple of starts ago with a tie for 17th in Qatar. He led this event last year but then ballooned in the final round shooting a 78. I will take him at plus money in this matchup.
Jacques Blaauw +100 vs. Benjamin Hebert
Blaauw was second in this event in 2015 and he shot a closing round 65 to finish well last year. He tied for 4th at the South African Open earlier this year. Hebert has played well recently, but this is more of a play on Blaauw than a play against Hebert.
Justin Walters -110 vs. Jeff Winther
Walters has started well in a lot of events and then faltered. He was tied for 9th in the South African Open before fading to a tie for 38th. He has done well on this course with three top 25 finishes including two top 10’s. I will take him in this matchup against Winther.
