With all of the best players in the world in Mexico, or sitting this week out, it is a wide-open field in South Africa for the Tshwane Open. George Coetzee is listed as the favorite at odds of +1000. The only other player listed at odds of less than +2000 is Alexander Bjork at odds of +1600. It is definitely a week for value when it comes to picking the winner. Odds Analysis
George Coetzee +1000
This should be a great chance for Coetzee to get a win, as the field is weak. Coetzee has played better the past two weeks with a tie for 13th and a tie for 8th. I would prefer to be getting higher odds on Coetzee, but he is a deserving favorite.
Alexander Bjork +1600
I give Bjork a big chance to win this week and I think there is value on him at +1600. He has looked really good this season with a tie for 2nd in the Hong Kong Open and a tie for 6th in the Dubai Desert Classic. He led this tournament a year ago after three rounds but finished in a tie for 5th.
Erik Van Rooyen +2000
Van Rooyen has his home in Johannesburg, so he won’t have far to travel. He tied for 2nd in the Joburg Open and last week he was tied for 2nd before failing on the weekend. He could have some value at these odds.
Julian Suri +2000
Suri tied for 2nd last year in the Nedbank Challenge, so we know he can play in South Africa. He is playing well with a top ten in the World Tour Championship, a tie for 2nd in the Hong Kong Open and he showed well on the PGA Tour in recent weeks.
Marcus Kinhult +2000
In his first four tries in South Africa it was ugly for Kinhult, as he missed four cuts, but last month he tied for 12th in the South African Open and he tied for 3rd last week in Qatar.
Richard Sterne +2500
Sterne is always a threat in South Africa. He has won the Joburg Open twice and in his one try in this event he tied for 4th.
Jacques Blaauw +3300
My longshot this week is Blaaauw who was second on the course in 2015. He shot a 65 last year in this event to finish strong and he tied for 4th this year in the South African Open.
Course: Pretoria Country Club is a par 71 that measures just 7,081 yards. It is similar to some of the other courses in the region like Randpark, Royal Johnannesbrg and Glendower. The last three winners on this course were George Coetzee who shot 14-under, Charl Schwartzel at 16-under and Dean Burmester last year at 18-under par.
