Turkish Airlines Open Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The course at the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort is lined with pine trees, so accuracy off the tee is important. The problem with focusing just on accuracy is that the greens are so big that players have been able to find their way out of trouble. The first three finishers in this event last year ranked in the top ten in putting average, so we’ll look at putting average as our top stat of the week.
Paul Dunne -109 vs. Kiradech Aphibarnrat
If putting is the key statistic this week then Dunne should be in the mix for the win He ranks second on the European in putts per round and he is also a leader in putts per GIR. Aphibarnrat has played well lately but he is not nearly the putter that Dunne is, ranking just 102nd on the European Tour. I will take Dunne in this matchup.
George Coetzee -113 vs. Shane Lowry
Coetzee is playing well, as he tied for 6th at the Italian Open, tied for 7th at the Portugal Open and he tied for 3rd at the KLM Open for three top 10 finishes in his last five starts. He played well here last year with a tie for 5th and he has the edge in putting, as he ranks 22nd in putting, while Lowry is just 167th. I will take Coetzee in this matchup.
Chris Wood -144 vs. Victor Dubuisson
This is another one of our putting matchups, as Wood ranks 28th on the European Tour in putting, while Dubuisson comes in at 199th. Dubuisson is an all or nothing type player, so it is always possible he gets hot this week but more often than not in the past couple of years he has been off. I will lay the price and take Wood in this matchup.
Hideto Tanihara -120 vs. Nacho Elvira
Another good matchup in terms of putting numbers has Tanihara ranking 17th on the European Tour, while Elvira is just 138th. I will lay the small number and take Tanihara in this matchup.
Matt Wallace -133 vs. Lucas Bjerregaard
One of the better putters on the European Tour is Wallace, as he ranks 35th and one of the worst putters on the Tour is Bjerregaard, as he ranks 194th. I will take Wallace in this matchup.
