The European Tour makes a rare start in the Czech Republic for the second annual D+D Real Czech Masters. The next two weeks are a low point on the European Tour with the purses in Prague and next week’s M2M Russian Open having the joint second lowest of the season at 1 million Euro, therefore, the talent level is suspect at best with Victor Dubuisson +1485 headlining the field.
Making things even worse for the event was when defending champion Jamie Donaldson had to withdraw earlier in the week due to a bad back.

The most important statistic in last year’s tournament was Greens in Regulation; Donaldson was 2nd and the player who led the field in that category, Tommy Fleetwood finished fifth. Sadly, neither are in the field this week.
Kristoffer Broberg +2250 is red hot this summer and it continued last week in Denmark with a second place finish where he raced up the leaderboard in the final round with a closing 62. That added to four top 15s in his previous six stroke-play events and it’s taken the Swede up to 54th in the Race To Dubai. It would hardly be a shock, with the weak field, that this week is the one where he gains his first European Tour win.
Former U.S. Amateur champion Matthew Fitzpatrick +2250 topped the greens in regulation stats at the Irish Open ( T8 ) and the Omega European Masters and is 7th in the overall GIR rankings so that bodes well given the importance of iron play at this tournament last year. The kid hits it straight and hits a ton of greens and it’s just a matter of time before the Englishman breaks through with his first European Tour win.
David Horsey +3350 went wire-to-wire and won last week in Denmark, but it is always difficult to play well two weeks in a row and I like to fade the players that win the week before. Horsey is in for a letdown and will not perform well this week in the Czech Republic.
