The two best players in the world will square off at the highly anticipated 115th U.S. Open.
Rory McIlroy versus Jordan Spieth is a matchup that everyone has their eyes on. McIlroy has missed his last two cuts and Vegas has narrowed the gap between the two with the World No. 1 a slight favorite over World No. 2 Spieth.
Tiger Woods is back in action after posting a 85 in his last start at the Memorial. Woods is paired up against Jason Dufner and easily has the most movement of any matchup on the board. Dufner opened as a slight favorite (-110) and now the line has Dufner as a heavy favorite (-180). Everyone, including myself, loves Dufner over Woods.

GOLF MATCHUPS
Rory McIlroy -130 vs. Jordan Spieth +110
World No.1 against World No.2 in this week’s power matchup. The two players have different views on how to prepare this week.
McIlroy showed up on Sunday night and will likely see the course two times before he gets started on Thursday and in the process shunned the advice of USGA President, Mike Davis, who warned players by saying, “I would contend that there is no way, absolutely no way, a player would have success here at Chambers Bay unless he studies the golf course and learns it. The idea of coming in and playing two practice rounds and having your caddie just walk it and using your yardage book, that person is done and will not win the U.S. Open.” In response to Davis comments, McIlroy asked, “What’s Mike Davis handicap?”
The cocky and confident McIlroy is in for a surprise this week.
Spieth, on the other hand, took notice of what Davis had to say and showed up last week to get an early start in his preparation. The young Texan also played the U.S. Amateur in 2010 and also has another advantage over nearly everyone in the field this week, his caddie grew up and lives in the area and has caddied at Chambers Bay close to 50 times. No one really knows what to think of Chambers Bay and we won’t until the tournament unfolds on Thursday and Friday, but what we do know, is that Jordan Spieth has done his homework and Rory McIlroy has not.
The Pick: Spieth
Phil Mickelson -115 vs. Dustin Johnson -105
The word is still out on Johnson’s health after withdrawing after nine holes last week in Memphis and to my knowledge he did not go in early for extra practice rounds. Mickelson played several practice rounds and will be one of the most prepared players in the tournament and is feeling good about his chances this week after shooting a final round 65 to claim a T3 in Memphis.
The Pick: Mickelson
(Round 1) Gary Woodland -140 vs. Victor Dubuisson +120 (Round 1)
Wow, I saw this one and couldn’t resist bashing Victor Dubuisson one last time before he pummels even farther down the golf rankings. The Frenchman is currently the most overrated player in the world. Somehow Dubuisson is still ranked 34th in the current world golf rankings despite having a T17 as his best finish in 2015. His last eight starts worldwide look like this; WD/MC/T63/MC/WD/T17/MC/T52. Now that is not the look of a top player, more like a rookie just starting out. His attitude and course demeanor is horrible, walking with his head down and complaining most of the time. Woodland’s length will be a big advantage and too much for Dubuisson to keep up with.
The Pick: Woodland
