A strong field is assembled for the AT&T Byron Nelson, with four of the world’s top six players expected to compete. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win this tournament which begins on Thursday, with Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia the co-second choices. Sergio is the defending champion, but history is not on his side, as the last player to defend the title was Tom Watson, nearly 40 years ago.

Odds Analysis
Dustin Johnson +450
The best player in the world right now is Johnson and he has played well in this event in the past with his last six starts all top 20 finishes with four of those in the top 10. It is easy to make a case for Johnson winning this week even at these low odds.
Jordan Spieth +1050
The hometown favorite is Spieth but he is not playing well right now and he has never done anything in this event, with a tie for 16th his best finish. I think he is overvalued at these odds and I will look elsewhere.
Sergio Garcia +1050
I have no idea what happened to Sergio in the final round of THE PLAYERS, as he was awful. Sergio did win the Masters but historically he can be an up and down player and history is against him in this event, as no one has repeated in decades.
Jason Day +1550
I am going to continue to go against Day until he shows some decent form. He was a disaster in the final round last week at THE PLAYERS and it is hard to make any case for him winning until he shows good form for more than a couple of rounds.
Brooks Koepka +1750
It could be a good week for Koepka who nearly won this event a year ago. He has three top 20 finishes in his last four starts. I think he is worth a shot at these odds.
Charley Hoffman +3250
Hoffman could have some value at odds of more than 32-1, as he has finished T-12, T-2, T-8, T-41 in his last four starts in this event.
Tony Finau +3550
My other longshot this week is Finau, who has tied for 12th and tied for 10th in his previous trips to the AT&T Byron Nelson. He did miss the cut at THE PLAYERS but that could be said of a lot of good players.
Course: TPC Four Seasons Resort at Las Colinas is a par 70 that measures 7,166 yards. This will be the last year for the course to host the AT&T Byron Nelson, as next year the event moves to Trinity Forest GC near downtown Dallas. The TPC Four Seasons features large greens but with runoffs just off the green. There are also a lot of creeks and ponds and a water cascade on the 18th hole. Most players don’t like this course, as in an anonymous poll last year, it was voted as the worst on the PGA Tour.
TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel
Notes: Garcia won this event last year even though he hit two balls into the water on Sunday. He ended up winning a playoff against Koepka. The tournament appeared to be in Koepka’s control but he had bogeys on No. 14 and No. 15. The win by Garcia was his second in this event.
