Barbasol Championship Preview, Odds and Predictions

2017-GOLF-Barbasol-Championship-Odds-To-Win-PGA-Betting-Odds

Jim Furyk is favored to win the Barbasol Championship, which begins on Thursday in Alabama. This event won’t get much attention, as the world’s best players are in England for the Open Championship. Furyk is one of the few marquee names in the field, but it has not been a good season for Furyk, as he didn’t even qualify for the Open. Furyk is the top choice in the betting at odds of +1250, while Daniel Summerhays is the second choice at odds of +1550.

Odds Analysis

Jim Furyk +1250

Furyk is not eligible to play in a major championship for the first time since 1995. It has not been a good season for Furyk who missed the first five weeks of the season due to injury and then didn’t play well when he came back. He has played a little better lately with a tie for 23rd in the U.S. Open and a tie for 25th at the Travelers. It is hard to get too excited about taking Furyk at these odds.

Daniel Summerhays +1550

Summerhays has finished in the Top 20 in each of his last two events but I think he is overvalued at these odds, as he has never won on the PGA Tour.

Patrick Rodgers +1850

It shouldn’t be long before Rodgers gets his first win. It almost happened last week at the John Deere Classic but he had a bogey on the 17th that really cost him. Rodgers has good length, as he is 11th on the PGA Tour in driving.

Chad Campbell +2550

The field is really week and that means Campbell should have a chance to contend. He is actually the second highest ranked player in the field in terms of FedEx Cup points. He is playing well, as he tied for 9th at the Greenbrier and he tied for 12th last week.

Rick Lamb +6550

This is the week to take big longshots, as nearly anyone could win this event. Lamb shot a 66 on Sunday at the John Deere Classic and tied for third. Lamb is 13th in total driving and he could contend for the win this week.

Smylie Kaufman +6550

Why not Kaufman winning this week at big odds? He did well as a rookie in 2015 but has struggled since. He has the distance to do well, as he is 20th on the PGA Tour in length and the rough at Grand National isn’t that bad if he gets into trouble.

Course: RTJ Golf Trail/Grand National (Lake) is a par 71 that measures 7,302 yards. The course is a favorite of players, as it has 12 holes that run along Lake Saugahatchee. The course has hosted the Barbasol Championship since 1999.

TV Coverage: Golf Channel

Notes:Aaron Baddeley won his first tournament in nearly six years, as he defeated Si Woo Kim in a playoff last year. Baddeley will not be defending his title, as he qualified for the Open Championship. This event is played just a short distance from Auburn University and there are seven former or current members of the Auburn golf program in the field including PGA pros Blayne Barber, Dominic Bozzelli and Patton Kizzire.
