We have two tournaments on the PGA Tour this week. All of the top players in the world are teeing it up at the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational this week but in Reno, Nevada we have the tour’s second stop, the 2016 Barracuda Championship which features a unique format where score is secondary.
Patton Kizzire is the highest ranked player in the field at No. 63 and he is joined by defending champion J.J. Henry +10050, Colt Knost +1500, Kyle Reifers +3200 and Bryce Molder +2200.
Jon Rahm +1700 finished T3 in his professional debut last week and looks to carry the momentum over and secure another strong finish in an effort to gain playing privileges the rest of the year.
With the cancellation of the Greenbrier Classic due to flooding in West Virginia, the Open Qualifying Series announced that the Barracuda Championship will carry that spot meaning that one player who finishes in the top five and ties, who is not already exempt for The Open, will secure a place in The Open. In the event of a tie, the spot will go to the highest ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking. Pretty cool perk this week.
The Modified Stableford format will be used this week in Reno. Players are awarded points based on a player’s performance at each hole. Eagles earn five points, birdies are worth two and pars zero, with bogeys deducting a point and double bogeys losing three.
Last year J.J. Henry prevailed for the second time in four years, fighting off Kyle Reifers’ record-setting charge with a 15-foot eagle putt on the first hole of a playoff. Reifers’ used a trio of back-nine eagles to produce a 22-point final round that set a new 18-hole tournament mark since the Modified Stableford scoring system was adopted. But Henry remained calm and picked up his third PGA Tour win.

ODDS ANALYSIS
Jon Rahm +1700 was the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world less than a month ago and was low amateur at the U.S. Open. The Arizona State product out of Spain is the real deal. He made his professional debut last week at the Quicken Loans National and was in contention from start to finish before finishing T3. Rahm needs to keep it rolling to secure playing privileges the rest of the year and with another top five finish, he will be on his way.
Kyle Reifers +3200 offers gamers the best VALUE on the board this week. He lost in a playoff a year ago in Reno, but his game has improved drastically since then and Reifers is a guy you can count on week in, week out, a very consistent player that is hungry for a win. Reifers in Reno!
