Bernd Wiesberger is the betting favorite at the 2015 Lyoness Open

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger ( +550 ) is playing at home this week and is the overwhelming betting favorite. Wiesberger lost in a playoff last year and won this event in 2012.

Joining Wiesberger in the betting field are Richie Ramsay ( +1500 ), Chris Wood ( +1250 ), Rafael Cabrera-Bello ( +1750 ) and former Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts ( +2450 ).

Diamond Country Club is the host course this week. The course opened in 2002 and is situated in Atzenbrugg near Vienna. The par 72 measures 7,417 yards and water is now in play on 13 of the 18 holes.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, who met his Austrian wife at this event four years ago, gives this assessment of the course: “It tests every part of your game. You need to drive the ball well, because some of the holes are long and some of the fairways are quite narrow. So you need to hit it straight, and then some of the approach shots to the greens are also quite tricky, which puts pressure on your short game.”

Matt Fitzpatrick ( +5850 ) is one of the straightest hitters on the European Tour which will bode well this week on a track that accuracy is a key element for success. The English youngster is making his first start in Austria and although he missed the cut last week in Sweden, the previous week he secured a T8 at the Irish Open.

Last week Daniel Im ( +7750 ) won the Swiss Challenge to secure his first win on the Challenge Tour. The conditions were similar to what they expect this week, hot and humid. “I’m from California so I’m used to hot weather, a bit like what we got here this week,” he said after that win so this week’s excellent weather forecast has to be good news. “I’ve seen the other American guys Brooks Koepka and Peter Uihlein come through the Challenge Tour and I played with Byeong-hun An a bunch of times in the last couple of years. They are my inspiration,” says Im.
