Two-time Major Champion Martin Kaymer +2050 and Masters champion Danny Willett +1200 headline an impressive field at this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.
“It’s always a special week as it is played at a very famous, iconic venue that has a lot of history,” said Kaymer, who has 11 European Tour titles to his name. “After my home country of Germany, the UK is probably my favorite place to play golf, and at Wentworth there are always great crowds creating a fantastic atmosphere.”
This by far is the strongest field on the European Tour so far this year. A stellar line-up has evolved for the first British European Tour event in 2016. Major winner Graeme McDowell +7500, Ryder Cup stars Thomas Bjorn, Luke Donald +2300, Jamie Donaldson +4050, Victor Dubuisson, Miguel Angel Jimenez+12500 and Lee Westwood +2500, plus a host of rising stars including Shane Lowry +1525, Andy Sullivan +5500, Matthew Fitzpatrick +4000, Bernd Wiesberger +4500, and Tyrrell Hatton +4500.
Defending champion Byeong Hun An +2400, Russell Knox +1700, Soren Kjeldsen +3550 and Thongchai Jaidee +6500 are other players to keep your eyes on this week. Knox, in particular, is quietly becoming a world class player.
Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia are not playing this week - the flagship event on the European Tour and four of their star players aren’t playing - not good!
The format this week is a bit different, the professionals will play the first few rounds with an amateur partner. A total of 77 celebrities from across the sporting and show business spectrums will join the best on the European Tour for what has become one of the social highlights of the summer.
Notable names taking part range from cricketing greats Sir Ian Botham, Brian Lara, Kevin Pietersen and Shane Warne; to Rugby World Cup winners Mike Tindall and Will Greenwood; to Formula One world champions Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell; and Olympic gold medallists Sir Matthew Pinsent and Sir Steve Redgrave.
First played in 1955, the BMW PGA Championship has been on the European Tour International Schedule since the Tour’s inception in 1972, The tournament has been held on the iconic West Course at Wentworth Club every year since 1984,

ODDS ANALYSIS
Luke Donald +2300 is slowly getting his game back and headed in the right direction. After a few years of struggling with his swing, Donald is playing much better and gaining confidence in his abilities. He now gets a chance to play the Wentworth Club where he hoisted the trophy in back-to-back years, 2011 and 2012. Donald offers gamers the best value on the board.
Veteran Lee Westwood +2500 is surprisingly playing some great golf. After going through a nasty divorce earlier in the year, everyone, including myself, were counting him out thinking that his best golf was behind him. Surprise, surprise - Westwood finished second at The Masters and finished T10 last week at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, proving to me that he has a lot left in the tank. His track record at Wentworth is impressive with a runner-up finish in 2011 and four other top 10’s.
Three players to fade this week include Andrew Johnston, David Lingmerth and Victor Dubuisson. Johnston’s game is a mess, Dubuisson’s attitude is really, really bad and Lingmerth left his game in the desert in February. Stay Away from all!
