The PGA Tour heads to California this week for the CareerBuilder Challenge at the TPC Stadium Course at PGA West in La Quinta, California. Jon Rahm headlines the field for this event and he is listed as the betting favorite at odds of +900. Rahm is the only player in the top 10 in the world in the field, as he is ranked No. 3. Brian Harman at No. 20 is the second choice in the betting at odds of +1400. Let’s look at the tournament and predictions.

Odds Analysis
Jon Rahm +950
Rahm is in fine form with a runner-up finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions after a win in the European Tour finale. He is bucking history in this event though, as 13 of the last 14 winners have been Americans. Rahm finished in a tie for 34th in this event last year. I think he is a bit overvalued at these odds.
Brian Harman +1450
I mentioned last week that I am going to be paying a lot of attention to Harman this year. He was very much in the mix again last week but just fell short. He has a tie for 11th and a tie for 3rd in this event. I think you can make a case he should be listed as the favorite and not Rahm.
Patrick Reed +1850
Reed played well in Dubai with a tie for 10th and he tied for 5th at the Bahamas. He won this event in 2014 and he tied for 12th last year. There is no reason to think he won’t be in contention this week.
Kevin Kisner +2050
Kisner finished in a tie for 25th last week and that was a disappointment considering he tied for 17th at Kapalua and tied for 4th at RSM. He should bounce back this week and he could be a threat on Sunday.
Webb Simpson +2050
Simpson played well last week at the Sony with a tie for 4th and he has made seven of eight cuts at the CareerBuilder. He could be in the mix this week, but I think he is overvalued at these odds.
Phil Mickelson +2250
It has been almost five years since Mickelson won a tournament. He did finish in the Top 15 twice in the fall but how can you back him to win until he shows he can contend on Sunday? He does have five top-10 finishes in this event including two wins, but I still need to see good form first before backing Phil.
Patton Kizzire +2850
The hot player on the PGA Tour is Kizzire who already has two wins this season including last week. I have a hard time backing him here, as a letdown seems likely and his best finish in this tourney is a tie for 42nd.
Chez Reavie +3550
My longshot this week is Reavie who has six straight top 25 finishes to start the season. He has finished in a tie for 17th and a tie for 12th and with few top players in the field he could surprise and get the win.
Course: TPC Stadium Course at PGA West is a par 72 that measures 7,113 yards. It is a course that features deep bunkers, raised greens and a lot of water, but it was one of the easiest on the PGA Tour schedule last year. Predicting a winner has not been easy in this event, as the last six winners have been Hudson Swafford, Jason Dufner, Bill Haas, Patrick Reed, Brian Gay and Mark Wilson; not exactly a list of marquee names.
