Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama are the top two betting choices to win this week’s CIMB Classic in Malaysia. Thomas has had a great year and he is the two-time defending champion of this event. It is hard to argue against Thomas in this event, as he loves playing in Malaysia and he is playing better than anyone in the world right now. We are coming off a 3-2 week with the matchups at the Safeway Open. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s CIMB Classic

CIMB Classic Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. It is all about going low at TPC Kuala Lumpur, so birdie percentage is one key stat to consider. Putting is also a big key this week. Thomas shot 26-under two years ago and last year he shot 23-under par. Last year’s field averaged 70.298.

Anirban Lahiri +110 vs. Ian Poulter

I am a little surprised that Lahiri is listed as the underdog in this matchup. He played well at the Presidents Cup and he tied for 3rd in this event a year ago. He tied for 14th last year in one of our key stats, birdie average. Poulter was just 117th last season in birdie average. I will take Lahiri at plus money against Poulter.

Chez Reavie -145 vs. Jason Dufner

This is another one of our key stat matchups, as Reavie was 30th on the PGA Tour last season in putting, while Dufner was 90th. Reavie has seven top 25 finishes in the last four months. I will lay the short price and take Reavie in this matchup.

Jamie Lovemark -150 vs. Si Woo Kim

Anytime that I can go against Kim in a matchup I usually do. I just don’t think much of his game and still am dumbfounded as to how he won THE PLAYERS. Kim is a terrible putter, as he was 175th last season on the PGA Tour. He also ranked 175th in birdie average. Lovemark was 115th in putting. This is more of a play against Kim, so I will lay the price and take Lovemark.

Adam Hadwin -149 vs. Peter Uihlein

Hadwin is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, as he ranked 18th last season. Hadwin played well in this event a year ago, as he tied for 21st. I will lay the price and take Hadwin in this matchup.

Kevin Na +113 vs. Branden Grace

This is another one of our key statistic matchups for the week. Na tied for 34th in birdie average last season on the PGA Tour, while Grace was just 165th. Na has played well in the past at TPC Kuala Lumpur, as his scoring average is 68.08. I will take Na at plus money.

Hudson Swafford -155 vs. Patrick Rodgers

Swafford tied for 56th last season in birdie average, while Rodgers was just 154th. I will lay the price and take Swafford in this matchup.
