A brand new event on the PGA Tour takes place this week, as the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges gets underway in South Korea. Justin Thomas leads the field for this event, with 10 of the world’s top 30 players expected to compete. Thomas is listed as the top betting choice at odds of +688, while Paul Casey is the second choice at odds of +908. We went 3-3 with the matchup picks in last week’s CIMB Classic. Let’s look at the matchups and picks for this week’s CJ Cup at Nine Bridges.

CJ Cup at Nine Bridges Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Nine Bridges is a new course to the PGA Tour but it has hosted other events including an LPGA event from 2002-2005 and the World Club Championship in 2002. There is not much to go on in terms of how this course will play for the pros but we do know that it is expected to be windy, with winds expected to blow from 10-20 mph throughout the event. Since we don’t know a great deal about this course we’ll focus on greens-in-regulation as our key stat of the week.
Paul Casey -140 vs. Jason Day
Casey was third on the PGA Tour last season in greens-in-regulation, while Day was 139th. Casey has been extremely consistent in the past year, while Day has been up and down. I will lay the small price and take Casey.
Xander Schauffele -121 vs. Marc Leishman
Schauffele was in contention for the win last week at the CIMB Classic, while Leishman has been off for a while. Schauffele was 6th in GIR last year, while Leishman was 50th. Schauffele led the field last week in par-5 scoring. I will lay the small price and take Schauffele in this matchup.
Sung Kang -182 vs. Byeong Hun An
I know the price is high on this matchup, but Kang is playing at home in Korea and he has the edge in GIR, as he ranked 84th last season, while An was 131st.
Kyle Stanley -153 vs. Bud Cauley
Stanley should love playing at Nine Bridges, as he is an excellent ball-striker. He was 2nd on the PGA Tour last season in GIR. He was top five last week in greens hit and in fairways hit. I will lay the price and take Stanley in this matchup.
Russell Henley -104 vs. Charl Schwartzel
This is a big key stat matchup, as Henley ranked 30th in greens-in-regulation last season, while Schwartzel was 179th. I am surprised Henley is not a bigger price in this matchup, as he is simply a better player right now than Schwartzel.
