Odds Analysis
Jon Rahm +1250
Much of the attention this week will be on Spieth but Rahm is actually playing better than Spieth right now. He is 10th on the PGA Tour in adjusted scoring average and he has improved his touch around the greens in recent weeks.
Jordan Spieth +1250
Maybe Spieth can turn things around at Colonial but I am not jumping on board until I see it happen. He has missed the cut in his last two events and I don’t like what I have seen. He loves playing at Colonial and he has a ton of talent, but he isn’t putting well this year and I am looking elsewhere.
Sergio Garcia +1450
Sergio got his breakthrough win at the Masters and he has shown signs of playing well following that win. The problem I have with taking Garcia is that he hasn’t even played Colonial since 2012, and he wasn’t that great on the course when he did play it.
Adam Hadwin +3550
I think it is all about value this week, as I like three longshots. Hadwin is the first of those at odds of +3550. He finished tied for 5th in 2015 in this event and he tied for 22nd last year. Colonial demands accuracy, good putting and scrambling and Hadwin ranks high in each category.
Phil Mickelson +4050
Why not Phil at odds of +4050 this week? He won this tournament in 2000 and in 2008. He has a great short game which will be of huge help at Colonial and he has eight Top 25 finishes this year, including three top ten finishes.
Ryan Palmer +4050
A horse for course pick this week is Palmer who is a Colonial member. He tied for 3rd last year and he has four Top 15 finishes in the past five years. He has a ton of value at odds of +4050.
Course: The second longest tenure of any golf course used on the PGA Tour is Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. It will be hosting this event for the 72nd time. Only Augusta National has a longer streak of hosting a PGA Tour event. Colonial is a par 70 that measures 7,209 yards. The course features tight fairways, which means driving accuracy is at a premium this week.
TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel
Notes: Last year it was Spieth winning this event in his home state of Texas. He shot 65-65 on the weekend to win by three shots over Harris English. It was the first win for Spieth in Texas in 19 tries.
