The European Tour is getting into the meat of its schedule starting this week at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and leading up to the big one, The Open Championship. Many of the greats in the game are on hand this week in Scotland to test their skills on a new venue, the Gullane Golf Club.

Defending Champion Justin Rose ( +1215 ) and fan favorites Phil Mickelson ( +1825 ) and Rickie Fowler ( +2213 ) headline a betting field that is deep in talent at this week’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy was suppose to play but injured his ankle playing soccer on July 4 and will miss 6-8 weeks. Rory, soccer? C’mon, use your head.

Other notable players scheduled to compete include Jimmy Walker ( +2815 ), Ian Poulter ( +3600 ), Matt Kuchar ( +3600 ) and South African Branden Grace ( +2213 ).

There really is no clear cut betting favorite this week, the field is wide open, which adds to the drama of the event. BookMaker sportsbook has the daily matchups and tournament matchups up and ready for you to wager on.

Scotland has been good to Brooks Koepka ( +2815 ) and will always have a warm place in his heart after winning the 2013 Scottish Challenge, his third of the season, which gave him automatic promotion from the Challenge Tour to the European Tour and really was the turning point in his young career. Playing all over the world has given Koepka the maturity well passed his years. He finished T12 in the 2013 Scottish Open at Castle Stuart, T9 in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last October and T18 in last month’s U.S. Open and is trending in the right direction to have a huge week.

In an interview with the Irish Times, Shane Lowry ( +2425 ) said he and his caddie had “one of the best and most enjoyable weeks we’ve ever had at a golf tournament” at Chambers Bay. “I didn’t win but a top 10 finish in a US Open, my second top 10 in the last four majors, was something I was proud of.” Now in position to gain his full card on the PGA TOUR, Lowry admits his other big goal is to get a win under his belt this year. Lowry now gets to play the next two weeks in Scotland on classic links style layouts that he thrives on with finishes of 6-4-3-10 in his last four starts. I am banking on Lowry not only this week, but at next week’s Open Championship as well.

Thongchai Jaidee ( +4450 ) is vastly underrated and in great form. Starting with a T2 in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, he’s made the top 11 in four of his latest five starts in Europe and showed the latest sign of his well-being with a T10 in last week’s Open de France. I was on board with the Thai last week ( easy winner ) and i am on him again this week.
