The second event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs is the Dell Technologies Championship, which begins on Friday and concludes on Monday. We can only hope it is as good as last week’s Northern Trust, which was won by Dustin Johnson in a playoff over Jordan Spieth. Those two are listed as co-favorites at odds of +750 to win this week. It is a big drop to the next group of players who are listed at +1450.Let’s look at the odds and some players to consider for this event.

Odds Analysis
Dustin Johnson +750
Johnson showed everyone, especially Jordan Spieth, that the world number one ranking goes through him. Johnson made key putts and in the playoff he showed that distance matters, as he outdrove Spieth by 80 yards to set up a great wedge shot. When DJ is on, he is the best player in the world. It would not be a surprise to see him win again this week.
Jordan Spieth +750
Spieth is usually unbeatable with a lead going into the final round but he let Johnson back into the tournament last week and couldn’t stop him. Spieth hasn’t been anything special in his career in Boston and I think he is overvalued as the co-favorite this week.
Hideki Matsuyama +1450
It was a complete letdown last week from Matsuyama who had been playing like the number one player in the world. I expect him to bounce back this week and be in the mix on Monday. He has improved every year at TPC Boston and anything less than a Top 10 finish this week would be a surprise.
Jason Day +1450
Day is starting to play better and it may not be long before he gets a win. He played well at the PGA and then he tied for sixth last week at The Northern Trust. He has played well at TPC Boston in the past and has finished outside of the Top 25 at the event only once.
Justin Thomas +1450
Thomas is getting a lot of love from oddsmakers but I still don’t put him in the class of Johnson or Spieth and I don’t know that on a weekly basis he should be listed as low as Fowler or Rahm.
Rickie Fowler +1450
Fowler was rolling along last week in contention for the win until Saturday when he flopped to a 74. He should bounce back this week in Boston where he won two years ago.
Rory McIlroy +1450
I went against Rory last week and will do so again this week. Rory said he is not at full strength but is fighting through injury issues. He also admitted that his game is simply not where it needs to be. McIlroy gets respect from the oddsmakers as the defending champ, but it would be a shock if he contends this week.
Jon Rahm +1550
Rahm got into the mix last week at The Northern Trust but he couldn’t do quite enough to catch Johnson and Spieth. Rahm is 11th in adjusted scoring and eighth in birdie average.
Paul Casey +2550
My longshot this week is Casey who nearly won this event a year ago. He has finished in the Top 15 in his last four starts overall and we know he loves playing TPC Boston.
Course: TPC Boston is a par 71 that measures 7,342 yards. It is located in Norton, Massachusetts, just 25 south of Boston. It was designed by Arnold Palmer in 2003 but re-designed by Gil Hanse and Brad Faxon.
TV Coverage: NBC and Golf Channel
Notes: This event has a new name, as Dell Technologies takes over as the title sponsor with Deutsche Bank bowing out. Last year it was defending FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy winning this event, as he came from six shots down in the final round to defeat Paul Casey. Sergio Garcia will be playing this week after taking last week off and Adam Scott is also in the field after originally saying he would sit out. The top 70 players after this week will advance to the BMW Championship. Two of the past three winners of the Dell Technologies Championship have gone on to win the FedExCup.
