Early look at the U.S. Open - Preview, Odds and Predictions

2016-U.S.-Open-early-look-Betting-Picks

The U.S. Open is only six weeks away and already there is action on the odds to win. Defending champion Jordan Spieth +700 and Rory McIlroy +700 are the betting favorites but the most movement has been on South African Branden Grace who opened up at +500 and is down to +2900. Gamers also like Phil Mickelson +3300 who is still searching for his first U.S. Open win.

Masters champion Danny Willett +3300 is also getting plenty of love. Before his epic win at Augusta, his odds were +7500, now they are down to +3300. He is the only player in the field that has a chance to win the first two majors of the year and the pressure will be immense, too much for young Willett to handle.

Tiger Woods +6000 chances are still up in the air as he continues to rehab his back. Woods has yet to determine his return date and we don’t really know how he will play if he does return. A return at the U.S. Open is possible but his chances are slim to even play on the weekend.

Oakmont Country Club was founded in 1903 by industrialist Henry Clay Fownes. The layout he created and tweaked through the years with his son, William, has set the standard for championship competition ever since. The nation’s first golf course to be recognized as a National Historic Landmark, Oakmont has previously hosted 15 USGA championships, including eight U.S. Opens 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2007. In 2007 no one broke par and this year won’t be any different - over par could win this year!

Defending champion Jordan Spieth recently played a practice round at Oakmont and said, “Oakmont is the toughest course in America.” He went on to say that par’s are like gold and if he can shoot even par for four rounds, he will win. Let the grind begin!

Golf fans will have a thorough view of the action this year, as Fox Sports will air more than 40 hours of live coverage. The USGA will also stream exclusive live action of two featured groups and a featured holes channel on usopen.com and on the U.S. Open app during the championship. Plus Fox fired Greg Norman and replaced him with Paul Azinger, an upgrade for sure.
