FedEx St. Jude Classic Preview, Odds and Predictions

2017-GOLF-FedEx-St.-Jude-Classic-Odds-To-Win-PGA-Betting-Odds

The last PGA Tour event before the U.S. Open is the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Most of the world’s top players are taking the week off to get ready for next week’s U.S. Open, but eight of the top 30 in the world are trying to buck history, as no winner of this event has ever gone on to win the U.S. Open the following week. Rickie Fowler is the only player ranked in the top 10 in the field, as Fowler is ranked No. 9 in the latest world rankings.

Odds Analysis

Rickie Fowler +850

Fowler is the top ranked player in the field but how focused is he going to be with the U.S. Open up next week? I think he is overvalued at these odds so I will pass on taking him.

Brooks Koepka +1250

One of the most frustrating players for me this year has been Koepka. When I trust him to play well he disappoints me and when I go away from him he plays well. Is this the week when Koepka shows up with a big effort?

Adam Scott +1350

I guess you could make a case for Scott but it has been a while since he actually won a tournament (over a year) and I don’t think there is much value on him at these odds so I will pass.

Francesco Molinari +2050

This could be the week for Molinari to get his first PGA Tour win. He finished tied for 6th at THE PLAYERS and he has spent more time this season on the PGA Tour than on the European Tour. I think he has some decent value at these odds. And keep in mind that this event has been great for players to get their first PGA Tour win, as in four of the last six years it has been a first-time winner in this event.

Steve Stricker +4050

My longshot this week is Stricker who came through for me in one of the matchups last week. Stricker is still trying to get into the U.S. Open and I think he has a real chance to win this week at attractive odds.

Course: TPC Southwind in Memphis is a par 70 that measures 7,244 yards. It has hosted this event since 1989. The course features a lot of water hazards with natural lakes, ponds and streams. The course was updated in 2004 with a lot of trees taken out and greens changed from bentgrass to Bermuda. The most famous hole at TPC Southwind is the par-3 11th that looks similar in some respects to the 17th hole at THE PLAYERS.

TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel

Notes: Daniel Berger got his first PGA Tour win last year, as he beat Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Steve Stricker by three shots. Mickelson has been in the mix for the win in this event in each of the past four years. Players can still qualify for the U.S. Open next week if they can get into the top 60 in the world rankings. Two players who could move into the Top 60 with a good showing this week are James Hahn and Tony Finau.

This is a good week to take a longshot, as in four of the last six years a player has gotten his first PGA Tour win in this event.
