The usual suspects are the betting favorites this week at the 99th PGA Championship. We may see a shootout between Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth but as deep as the betting field is, we could also see a few unheralded, every day players, better known as long shots, that could also stamp their name on the famous Wanamaker Trophy.
There is a ton of value on the board this week. Astronomical Betting Odds on proven PGA Tour winners sprinkled all over the place. We are looking for players that are playing well, players with past success at Quail Hollow, players that drive the ball well, players that have experience in majors and finally, players that offer gamers the best value on the board.
Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina is the venue this week. The layout measures 7,600 yards and plays to a par 71. The original 1961 George Cobb design, with upgrades from Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio, continues to grow in status since its return to the PGA TOUR schedule in 2003. Tom Fazio’s latest upgrade created three new holes, including a new 524-yard opener made by merging the old first and second holes. The final three holes, dubbed the Green Mile, are considered perhaps the toughest closing stretch on the PGA Tour.

Webb Simpson +15250 deserves a play in all formats and I’ll tell you why. He’s won a major before, he lives on the seventh tee at Quail Hollow and has played the course more than any other player in the field. Home field advantage is worth a stroke or two every round.
Phil Mickelson +4250 - Time is running out for Lefty but you can never count him out in a major, especially on a venue where he’s had success. He loves playing at the Quail Hollow Club - he won the Wells Fargo in 2012 and has had multiple other close calls on the venue. His current form is a concern but at +4250, he’s worth a look.
Zach Johnson +7050 - The two-time major winner has finally found his groove with three solid starts and is heating up and primed to give it a run at the PGA. Although the course is long, ZJ is making a lot of putts and striking the ball the best he has all year. Great value here.
Brendan Steele +8050 - Who knows, maybe it’s this guy who comes out of nowhere to claim the Wanamaker Trophy. He won earlier in the year at the Safeway Classic, is currently 15th in the FedEx Cup standings and has the talent to win a major championship.
Bill Haas - +12500 - He goes under the radar on a weekly basis. He’s a proven PGA tour winner and past FedEx Cup champ. At +9900, he offers value.
Patrick Cantlay +15250 - He’s only played two events the past two months which is a concern, but when he does play, he plays well. We know he’s fresh and the former UCLA star may make a late season run, starting this week at the PGA Championship.
Haotong Li +15250 - He’s only 22-years old and on the brink of something big. The Chinese phenom hits it long and proved that he’s not afraid to take it deep on the biggest stage by shooting a final round 63 at the Open Championship to finish solo third. He sits 12th in the race to Dubai standings and is ranked 66th in the world. Watch out for Haotong Li!
