The final major of the year is on the line next week in Charlotte, North Carolina at the 99th PGA Championship where Open champion Jordan Spieth can complete his career grand slam, joining golf’s elite.
Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the betting favorites and will be challenged by World No. 1 Dustin Johnson, rising star Jon Rahm, U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka and the rest of the world’s best players.
Other players that will garner their share of action this week are Hideki Matsuyama, Henrik Stenson, Justin Thomas, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Justin Rose and Alex Noren. Martin Kaymer has withdrawn from the tournament.
Venue: Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina. The layout measures 7,575 yards and plays to a par 72. The 1961 George Cobb design, with upgrades from Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio, continues to grow in status since its return to the PGA TOUR schedule in 2003. Not only has Quail Hollow become a favorite among players, but the course will also host The Presidents Cup in 2021. The final three holes, dubbed the “Green Mile,” are considered perhaps the toughest closing stretch on tour.
