The spotlight will be on Tiger Woods this week, as he makes his return at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Tiger has looked healthy and strong in practice, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can be competitive against the best golfers in the world. He gets a big test this week, as the field for the Hero World Challenge is excellent, led by Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Hero World Challenge.

Hero World Challenge Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Albany course is 7,309 yards and plays really easy. There is no cut, so all of the golfers will play 72 holes. There are five par 5’s and five par 3’s. The top statistics to consider in this event are Strokes Gained: Around the Green and Par 5 Scoring. There are only 18 players in this event, so we don’t have as many matchups to pick from this week.

Patrick Reed -147 vs. Tommy Fleetwood

When will fatigue set in for Fleetwood? I thought it would happen last week in Hong Kong but he played well and I went 1-1 going against him in his two matchups. I am going against him again this week and taking Reed who finished second in this event two years ago. Fleetwood has played in China, Turkey, South Africa, Dubai and Hong Kong in the last five weeks and now he travels to the Bahamas where he plays Albany for the first time. I will lay the price and take Reed in this matchup.

Kevin Kisner -144 vs. Alexander Noren

Kisner is coming off a tie for 3rd at East Lake and a tie for 4th at Sea Island. Kisner rarely gets the respect he deserves and I think this is a short price against Noren. Kisner is the better putter and he should like the Bermuda greens in the Bahamas. I will lay the small price and take Kisner in this matchup.

Brooks Koepka +105 vs. Hideki Matsuyama

Koepka was great in Japan in winning by a record margin and he has been in contention a lot in 2017. As I noted yesterday in the overall tournament preview, it is usually all or nothing with Matsuyama. I will take Koepka at plus money in this matchup.

Charley Hoffman -117 vs. Kevin Chappell

One of my favorite players to take in matchups last season was Hoffman. The Albany course should suit his game really well, as he is long off the tee and does well in par-5 scoring. Chappell didn’t even make the cut at Mayakoba and will be playing Albany for the first time. I will take Hoffman in this matchup.

Patrick Reed +110 vs. Henrik Stenson

There is no denying that Stenson has played well in this event, as he finished second the last two years, but I wonder about the rib injury he is recovering from. He took two weeks off to rest his sore rib and I doubt that was enough time. I will take Reed at plus money in this matchup.
