Jason Day ( +800 ) is joined by Bubba Watson ( +1525 ), defending champion Tim Clark and five of the top 15 in the current golf rankings. The lineup includes 26 players returning from the British Open at St. Andrews. Clark will try to become the Canadian Open’s second back-to-back champion since 1951. Jim Furyk ( +1525 ) successfully defended his title in 2007. Watson missed the cut at last week’s Open Championship and Day contended from start to finish before eventually finishing T4.
The season is flying by and there is only five weeks remaining in the FedExCup regular season, as jockeying starts to heat up for one of 125 spots at The Barclays playoff opener. The field is one of the weaker ones on the PGA Tour which gives the players outside the top 125 a huge opportunity to make a move and get in position to make the playoffs.
Glen Abbey Golf Club will host this year’s event. The Jack Nicklaus design is in pristine shape and a venue that the players love. The back nine features the “Valley Holes”, starting with a tee shot at No.11 to a fairway some 60 feet below, then following Sixteen Mile Creek for three holes before eventually climbing out at No.16. The closing hole is a risk/reward par five that is perfect for a two-shot swing which adds drama to the finish.

Luke Donald ( +2400 ) is back! After struggling for most of the year, the Englishman is starting to show flashes that vaulted him to one of the elite players in the game just a few years ago. He finished T14 at last week’s Open Championship and had two T7’s prior to that. Donald’s confidence is showing, all the more reason to back him this week.
Scott Piercy ( +4150 ) won last week’s Barbasol Championship and is playing his best golf of the year. He tied for 14th the week before at the John Deere Classic. He won the Canadian Open in 2012 and if there was ever a week to back Piercy, this is the week.
Hunter Mahan ( +3650 ) returns to Glen Abbey for the first time since withdrawing as the 36-hole leader in 2013. His lackluster form is a real concern and a reason why I advise fading the Texan.
