Daniel Berger is the only player ranked in the Top 20 in the world in the field for this week’s John Deere Classic, so it is not a huge surprise that Berger is listed as the favorite at odds of +1419. Only one other player is listed with odds of less than +2000, as Brian Harman is +1908. We are coming off a very good week with the matchup picks, as we were 4-1 at the Greenbrier. We’ll look to continue that success at the John Deere Classic.

John Deere Classic Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. TPC Deere Run is not a difficult course, so players will need to score well to win. Two of the key stats to consider are Strokes Gained: Approach and Strokes Gained: Putting. In the last ten years Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker have done really well in this event and both are really good with short irons and they have been known to get hot with the putter. After such a good week at the Greenbrier I am being a little cautious with the picks with the Open Championship coming up next week.
C. Reavie -157 vs. N. Taylor
Reavie has been playing well of late, with a tie for 16th at the U.S. Open and a tie for 4th at the St. Jude Classic. He has solid approach stats and he does well in par-4 scoring. Taylor played well last week but I don’t see him playing well in back-to-back weeks. He is just 75th in approach and 141st on Tour in putting. I will lay the price and take Reavie.
C. Howell III -118 vs. R. Moore
Howell is having a good season with six top 25 finishes. I know Moore is the defending champion but this is a play against him, as this is his first tournament back after sitting out five weeks due to a shoulder injury. I always like going against players coming back from injury, so I will take Howell in this matchup.
L. Glover -160 vs. M. Hoffmann
Glover is 60th on the PGA Tour in one of our key stats for the week, Shots Gained: Approach while Hoffmann is 176th. Hoffmann is also just 107th on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Putting. I will lay the price and take Glover in this matchup.
K. Kraft +111 vs. R. Palmer
There have been so many first time winners lately that why not Kraft? He tied for 5th in this event last year and he tied for 5th last week at the Greenbrier. The only word of warning on this matchup is that we have not been nearly as good with underdogs on the matchups this year as we have with favorites and this is not a big price.
