John Deere Classic Preview, Odds and Predictions

2017-GOLF-John-Deere-Classic-Odds-To-Win-PGA-Betting-LInes

The last PGA Tour event before next week’s Open Championship is the John Deere Classic, which begins on Thursday in Illinois. None of the world’s top players are in the field, as those that are choosing to play this week are teeing it up in the Scottish Open. Daniel Berger is the lukewarm favorite to win the John Deere Classic at odds of +1250. Berger is the top ranked player in the field at No. 20 in the latest World Golf Rankings.

Odds Analysis

Daniel Berger +1250

Berger is playing better than anyone in the field with a win and a second in his last three PGA starts but he is probably overvalued at these odds considering he has never played this event.

Brian Harman +1550

Harman won this event in 2014 and he is in good recent form including a tie for 2nd at the U.S. Open. He took last week off after a tie for 35th at the Travelers.

Charley Hoffman +1650

Hoffman has an 8th place finish and a tie for 3rd in his last two starts. He has two top 15 finishes in this event.

Danny Lee +1650

Lee is in good form with four top 10 finishes in his last seven starts but he has missed the cut in four starts in this event.

Kevin Kisner +2050

I have no idea what happened to Kisner last week at the Greenbrier. He should be poised for a bounce back week in Illinois and his stats are solid, as he ranks 13th on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green and he is in the Top 50 in greens in regulation.

Kyle Stanley +2050

Stanley won at the Quicken Loans and he definitely has the stats to win again, as he is second on Tour in greens in regulation and fifth in Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green.

Steve Stricker +2250

Why not Stricker again at nice odds? He has played well of late and he loves playing at TPC Deere Run.

Zach Johnson +2550

I can’t leave out Johnson who has won this event once and has three other second place finishes. His form isn’t that great but this field is weak.

Kevin Streelman +4050

The first of my two longshots is Streelman who has played well in this event in the past with a tie for 8th twice and he has good tee-to-green stats this year.

Chez Reavie +6050

Reavie is playing well of late and he has done well in this event with a tie for 5th in 2011 and a tie for 15th in 2013.

Course: TPC Deere Run is a par 72 that measures 7,268 yards. It is a relatively easy course that oftentimes produces low scores. Paul Goydos shot a 59 on the course seven years ago and Steve Stricker shot a 60 that same day.

TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel

Notes: Steve Stricker will be making his 16th appearance in this event. He won the tournament from 2009-2011, marking the first time in PGA Tour history that a player has won the same event in three straight years. Last year, it was Ryan Moore defeating Ben Martin by two shots.
