The last major of the year is upon us when the 2015 PGA Championship gets started this Thursday live on TNT and CBS. Whistling Straits will host the event. The 1998 Pete Dye design is set to host its third PGA Championship in a 12-year span and also will host the 2020 Ryder Cup matches. This could be the legendary course designer’s finest masterpiece. Dye set about to bring the links-style look of Scotland and Ireland to America’s heartland, moving more than a million cubic tons of earth to create open, windswept terrain framed by wispy fescue and more than 1,000 bunkers. A thousand bunkers is A LOT!
World No. 1 and defending champion Rory McIlroy, returning from torn ankle ligaments, joins Masters/U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth and Open Championship winner Zach Johnson atop this year’s strongest field. McIlroy has been sidelined since July 4 and says the ankle is a “non issue” and is ready to go. Spieth gets another chance to collect a third major trophy this year, having finished one shot out of the playoff at St. Andrews. Only Woods and Ben Hogan have won three majors in a year. Johnson looked rusty last week in Akron, but did have a top-five finish the last time a major championship was played at Whistling Straits.
Tiger Woods, down to No. 262 in the world rankings, tees it up with his season on the line. The three-time PGA winner stands 185th in the FedEx Cup points race, saying his performance at Whistling Straits will determine whether he pursues a Playoffs berth at the Wyndham Championship. This could be the last time we see Woods in 2015.

The players that hit the fairways and control their ball flights will be the ones contending this week at Whistling Straits.
Ever since Dustin Johnson three-putted the 72nd hole of the U.S. Open to lose by a stroke to Jordan Spieth, the lanky Johnson has been in a tail spin in the wrong direction. Sure, he has had his moments, leading the Open Championship after 36 holes, but week after week you see a couple of 75’s on his cards and those are costly. D.J. can not put four rounds together and is a waste of time backing this week.
Not many people on the planet are playing better golf than Bubba Watson +1625 right now. His length is off the charts, his confidence is on a high and the memories of losing in a playoff the last time the PGA Championship was played at Whistling Straits is fresh on his mind. Week after week, Watson is there at the end and coming up a shot short, but this week he comes up big with his first PGA Championship win and third major of his career.
Robert Streb +8707 is the biggest mover on the board. The savvy gamer saw the Streb open up at +12550 and flagged it down. I still like the Sneaky Streb to perform well and is still worth a play at +8707. He makes a ton of birdies and has shown in recent weeks that he is not afraid of the spotlight and thrives in the marquee matchups.
