Rickie Fowler leads the field for this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Fowler is listed as the favorite at odds of +950, while defending champion Pat Perez is the second choice at +1350. This will be the first time Fowler has played since the Presidents Cup, while Perez has played three times, winning once and finishing tied for 5th and 24th. Somewhat surprisingly, American-born players have won nine of the last ten years at the OHL Classic. Let’s look at this event, odds and predictions.

Odds Analysis
Rickie Fowler +950
Fowler is one of my love-hate players. I love his game but I hate that he rarely comes through with wins. He seems to be among the favorites every time he plays, but last season he won just once on the PGA Tour. He hasn’t played since the Presidents Cup and I think he is overvalued at these odds.
Pat Perez +1350
It is easy to make a case for Perez winning this week, as he is the defending champion, plus he won at the CIMB Classic earlier this season and he ranks 16th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy. He took last week off and should make a good run at defending his title.
Chesson Hadley +2050
One of the hottest golfers on the PGA Tour right now is Hadley. He has five top four finishes in his last six starts worldwide. The one concern is that he did miss the cut in this event in 2013 but there is no doubting his current form.
Patrick Reed +2050
Reed is another player who I think should do a lot better than he actually does. He has a ton of talent but rarely puts together four great rounds. Do you know how many times he won on the PGA Tour last season? Zero. I am looking elsewhere.
Gary Woodland +2050
Woodland is an interesting option this week. He finished second to Perez in this tournament last year and he could be right with Perez for the win again this year. The only concern is that he has not finished better than a tie for 18th in his last nine PGA Tour starts.
Charley Hoffman +2550
I remember saying last week that I thought Hoffman had some value but oddsmakers knew what they were doing as Charley was no threat to win in Las Vegas. Hoffman is a streaky player and until he gets it going I will avoid taking him to win.
Chez Reavie +2550
I give Reavie a decent shot to contend this week, as he tied for fourth last year and is very accurate off the tee, ranking tied for 10th on the PGA Tour. He has five straight top 25 finishes.
Danny Lee +6050
My longshot this week is Lee who is 8th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy. He tied for 3rd in this event in 2014.
Course: El Camaleon GC is a par 71 that measures 6,987 yards and a course where accuracy is very important. It was designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2004. It is definitely a unique course, as it features a jungle, mangroves and oceanfront holes. Pat Perez shot 263 on the course in last year’s event, the lowest in OHL Classic history.
Event Notes: Eight of the previous ten champions of the OHL Classic have been at least 30-years old. The average age of the winners is 38.1. Seven former champions are in the field including Perez and Charley Hoffman. Four of the previous ten editions have been decided in a playoff.
