The final major of the year gets underway this week at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. The 2016 PGA Championship is the last chance of the year for players to make history. The Wanamaker trophy is up for grabs and the usual suspects are the betting favorites.
U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson +825, Rory McIlroy +825 and world No. 1 Jason Day +975 are the favorites. Johnson seems to play well every week, his length off the tee gives him a huge advantage. McIlroy is still looking for his first major of the year and his form is good but he has yet to put it all together and Day is in a mini-slump and not playing the type of golf he was a year ago at this time where he won seven tournaments in five months.
We can not forget about Jordan Spieth +1421, Open champion Henrik Stenson +1587 and fan favorite Phil Mickelson +2269. Spieth is having a tough time living up to high expectations after last year’s epic year, Stenson is a factor anytime he pegs it up and Mickelson won at Baltusrol the last time the course hosted a major.
Arguably the best design by A.W. Tillinghast, Baltusrol Golf Club will host this year’s PGA Championship. The track has hosted seven U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships. Phil Mickelson won on the Lower Course, which has been updated by Robert Trent Jones Sr, and his son, Rees. It’s a 7,428-yard par 70 with the only two par 5’s at 17 and 18. Three of the four par 3s are over 210 yards although the PGA of America will likely move some of the tees up on certain days. The course has an old school feel to it with thick rough, plenty of bunkers and slippery greens.

ODDS ANALYSIS
Phil Mickelson +2269 loves playing in the Metropolitan area and has great fan support that usually he thrives on. Lefty came close at the Open Championship and seems to be on the verge of winning again. His ball striking is much improved, his putting is back to form and his attitude is one of the best in the game. Mickelson is worth a look this week.
If you like long shots, this is the week to play a few. Steve Stricker +9664 is back and playing well. He top fived it at the Open Championship and the way he putts, he always has a chance. Colt Knost +20250 doesn’t have much major experience but has played solid most of the year and may surprise this week. At +20250 why not put a few bucks on him. Daniel Summerhays +25250 is also worth a look and offers gamers great value at his current number.
WARNING: Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger both are battling injuries. Koepka an ankle and Berger a wrist, so be careful and monitor their status throughout the week.
