Quicken Loans National Preview, Odds and Predictions

2017-GOLF-Quicken-Loans-Matchup-Odds-PGA-Betting-Lines

Just two of the top 12 players in the latest World Rankings are in the field for the Quicken Loans National, which begins on Thursday at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C. Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas are the top two betting choices in a field that includes 16 PGA Tour winners from this season including PLAYERS winner Si Woo Kim. Fowler, Thomas and Patrick Reed are the only players listed with odds of less than 22-1.

Odds Analysis

Rickie Fowler +750

This could be the week for Rickie to win, as the field is not that strong and he is in good form. He has three top five finishes, including his last start at the U.S. Open. He is 19th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy and seventh in strokes gained: putting. He leads the Tour in adjusted scoring.

Justin Thomas +1250

I had a strong feeling last week that Thomas would suffer a letdown after the U.S. Open and that is exactly what happened last week at the Travelers. I still think he needs an entire week off to put the U.S. Open behind him but at least he did get last weekend off, as he missed the cut.

Patrick Reed +1450

Reed is getting closer to a win, as he has six Top 25 finishes in his last seven starts. He tied for 13th at the U.S. Open and he tied for fifth last week at the Travelers. Reed is really close to putting everything together and it would not be a surprise to see him win this week.

Marc Leishman +2250

One of my favorite players in matchups of late has been Leishman. He continues to go under the radar on the PGA Tour. He is sixth on the PGA Tour in adjusted scoring and he is 21st in strokes gained: tee-to-green.

Bill Haas +2550

Haas has three top 10 finishes this season and he has finished in the Top 25 a total of ten times. He is ranked eighth on Tour in greens-in-regulation and he is seventh in scrambling.

Kevin Streelman +5050

My longshot this week is Streelman who finished in the Top 10 last week at the Travelers. He closed with a 64 and looks to be in top form. He has a lot of value at odds of more than 50-1.

Course: TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm is a par 70 that measures 7,139 yards. The course has not hosted the Quicken Loans National, as it has been hosted at Congressional in most years, including last year. Congressional will now host the event in even-numbered years. TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm last hosted a PGA Tour event 11 years ago when it hosted the Booz Allen Classic.

TV Coverage: CBS and Golf Channel

Notes: Billy Hurley III won this event last year, as he made birdies at 15 and 16 to pull away for a three-shot win. He shot a final-round 65 to finish at 17-under par, one off the tournament record. Odds are against a repeat for Hurley, as no player in the tournament’s 11-year history has successfully defended his title.
