Dustin Johnson is the clear favorite to win the RBC Canadian Open, which begins on Thursday in Oakville, Ontario. Johnson is the only player listed at single-digit odds and there are only two players listed with odds of less than +2200, as Johnson is +695, while Matt Kuchar is +1188. We are coming off our first losing week in a while with the matchups at the Open Championship, so we’ll look to bounce back strongly at the RBC Canadian Open with four plays including a nice underdog.

RBC Canadian Open Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The key stat to consider this week is greens in regulation because the greens are considered easy to putt. Glen Abbey has four par 5’s so distance will also be important. The fairways are narrow but the rough is not as long as in previous years. Last year’s winner, Jhonnatan Vegas took advantage of the par 5’s, as he birdied all four of them on Sunday.
D. Johnson -145 vs. M. Kuchar
I think we get a bargain price on Johnson after what Kuchar did last week at the Open Championship. Johnson is the No. 1 player in the world and while he hasn’t played nearly as well as he did early in the year he did show some good signs at the Open, as he shot a 64 on Saturday. I also expect a major letdown from Kuchar this week. Johnson has finished second in his last two visits to Glen Abbey. I will lay the price and take Johnson in this matchup.
C. Hoffman +160 vs. M. Kuchar
I am going against Kuchar twice this week in the matchups. Hoffman has been extremely consistent this season and he tied for 16th and tied for 7th in his last two trips to Glen Abbey. There is always a risk in going against a player twice in the matchups but at this price I will take Hoffman.
T. Finau -149 vs. B. Watson
One of the key stats for this week is greens in regulation and Finau is among the best on the PGA Tour, as he ranks 6th. Bubba hasn’t played well for much of the season and I don’t see that changing this week. He also ranks a poor 177th in greens in regulation. I will take Finau in this matchup.
W. McGirt -135 vs. R. Barnes
McGirt always seems to play well at Glen Abbey, as he has made the cut all six times he has played there. Last year he was 3rd in fairways hit and 16th in greens in regulation. McGirt is 34th on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation. Barnes hasn’t done anything all season and he is just 165th in greens in regulation. I will lay the small price and take McGirt.
