Rory McIlroy out to prove he is the best player on the planet by cashing big at this week’s BMW PGA Championship on the Golf Channel

World No. 1 Rory Mcilroy ( +275 ), who last week won his 18th worldwide professional title at the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour, returns to Surrey, England, to defend the crown he won 12 months ago.
He will play the first two rounds in familiar company with US Open Champion Kaymer ( +3150 ) and Welshman Jamie Donaldson ( +3050 ).

The BMW PGA Championship is the so called “flagship” event on the European Tour but doesn’t come close to the PGA Tour’s PLAYERS Championship where all top 50 ranked players showed up to compete. McIlroy and Justin Rose ( +1000 ) are the only players ranked in the top ten that will tee it up this week. European Tour stalwarts Ian Poulter, Paul Casey and Henrik Stenson all decided to skip this event. Casey and Poulter are playing in the United States and Stenson is taking the week off completely. All three played in THE PLAYERS on the PGA Tour and it remains a mystery why they are not playing in Europe’s biggest event.

Francesco Molinari ( +3750 ) appears to be healthy and over a wrist injury after finishing T2 last week in Spain. I was high on the Italian last week and I am all over him again this week. The Wentworth Club (West Course) is all about position and accuracy which is the strength of Molinari’s game and why he has finished in the top ten in his last three visits at Wentworth.

One player that is in a funk is Graeme McDowell ( +5750 ) who continues to struggle. His recent form and past history at the BMW PGA Championship (5 missed cuts and no top ten’s) do not bode well with me. McDowell will continue to struggle at a venue that does not suit his game and miss the cut yet again, leaving him scratching his head and looking for answers.

Frenchman Victor Dubuisson ( +7550 ) has fallen off the face of the earth with his game and to me is the most OVERRATED player ( No.24 ) on the planet. He continues to struggle with his game, missing cuts in the process. The Wentworth Club will expose a player’s weaknesses and Dubuisson will again disappoint his fans with another missed cut. FADE the Frenchman!

If you like long-shots, Anirban Lahiri ( +15050 ) is your man. He currently is 7th in the Race to Dubai standings and has risen to No. 41 in the current world golf rankings.
