The last official PGA Tour event of the calendar year gets underway on Thursday, as the RSM Classic takes place in Georgia. Brian Harman is the lukewarm favorite at odds of +1650, while Kevin Kisner and Webb Simpson are co-second choices at odds of +1850. Just five of the top 30 in last season’s FedExCup standings are in the field. This tournament takes place at St. Simon’s Island in Georgia and 12 pros who call St. Simon’s home are in the field. Let’s look at this event, odds and predictions.

Odds Analysis
Brian Harman +1650
I am not sure why Harman is listed as the favorite. I know he has a good short game and that is important in this tournament, but he has just one top 10 finish in five starts on this course and he has missed the cut in his last two RSM events. I think he is a go-against at these odds.
Kevin Kisner +1850
I think Kisner should be listed as the favorite this week. He has won this event before and he is coming off a breakthrough season in which he starred on the Presidents Cup team.
Webb Simpson +1850
Simpson should be a contender, as he has four straight top 20 finishes. He has three top 10 finishes in his last seven PGA Tour starts. He finished second in this event in 2011.
Brandt Snedeker +2250
It used to be that you could count on Snedeker to win events like this with his great putting, but that is not the case now. He is simply not the putter he once was and I think he is overvalued at these odds.
Matt Kuchar +2250
Kuchar should be in the mix for the win this week and I think he has value at these odds. He always seems to be in contention, but rarely wins, but this field is weak and Kuchar should have a big chance.
Patton Kizzire +2250
Kizzire won last week in Mexico, but I rarely like a golfer to win in back-to-back weeks, so I will likely go against Kizzire this week, as he has missed the cut in his last two RSM events.
Bill Haas +2550
Haas would seem to have the game to do well at St. Simon’s, but he has yet to win on the course and he has just one top 10 finish in his last 11 PGA Tour starts.
Chesson Hadley +2850
Hadley had to withdraw in Mexico due to food poisoning. He has been in excellent form with a tie for fourth or better in his previous three starts.
Course: The Sea Island Seaside course is a short par 70 that measures 7,005 yards. The Seaside course is the main course but everyone will play one round at the Plantation course which is a par 72. Experience on this course has not meant much, as there has never been a true hometown winner of this event. Kevin Kisner and Chris Kirk are part time residents and they have won this event but the best finish for a full time resident is the fourth place finish by Davis Love III in 2012.
