Big prices are on the board for this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship, as all of the players in the event are listed with odds of +2050 or more. None of the world’s best players are in the field, as they are in China for the WGC-HSBC Champions event. William McGirt is the highest ranked player in the Sanderson Farms Championship at No. 75, but McGirt is not among the favorites. Chesson Hadley and Jason Kokrak are co-favorites at odds of +2050. Odds Analysis
Chesson Hadley +2050
Hadley was the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2014 but he lost his PGA Tour card in 2016. He bounced back in 2017 on the Web.com Tour and regained his card. He had two wins in the last few months on that tour and he played well at the Safeway Open, tying for third. He shouldn’t be listed as the favorite but in this field that can be said about everyone.
Jason Kokrak +2050
Kokrak tied for 17th at the Safeway Open. He has never won a PGA Tour event and hasn’t even been in contention that often. I think he is overvalued at these odds.
Ben Martin +2550
Martin also tied for 17th at the Safeway Open. He had two top 10 finishes last season on the PGA Tour. He tied for 18th in this event a year ago.
Kevin Streelman +2550
Streelman tied for 13th at the Safeway Open. He had two just top 10 finishes last season.
Austin Cook +2850
Why not Austin Cook as the winner this week? He played well last season on the Web.com Tour with eight top ten finishes and has better current form than many of the players in this week’s field.
Chris Kirk +3350
I would like Kirk to win this week except for one worrisome fact. He is said to be in the midst of changing equipment and using new clubs is always a concern, as there can be an adjustment period.
Keith Mitchell +8050
There is no reason a huge longshot can’t win this week, as this tournament has seen a boatload of first-time winners. Mitchell is another of the Web.com Tour graduates. He had six top ten finishes last season.
Course: The Country Club of Jackson is a par 72 that measures 7,421 yards. This will be the fourth year the course is hosting this event. The club goes back to 1914 and the layout dates back to 1962. The course was redesigned in 2008 by former PGA player John Fought. Cody Gribble shot 268 last year for the course record in this event.
Event Notes
Last year Gribble won this event, as he finished four strokes clear of Greg Owen, Luke List and Chris Kirk. Four of the last six winners of the Sanderson Farms Championship have been first time winners. A total of 10 players have made this event their first PGA Tour win. This event has seen U.S. Players win won 20 of the last 22. Only two players have won this event more than twice, Brian Henninger and Fred Funk.
