The PGA Tour is heading to Maui, Hawaii for the annual SBS Tournament of Champions that features only players that won on the PGA Tour from last year and the first few events of this year’s wrap around 2017 season. The action gets started January 5-8, 2017 live on the Golf Channel.
Defending champion Jordan Spieth +550, U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson +570, Jason Day +875, PGA Champion Jimmy Walker +2750, Patrick Reed +1350 and rising Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama +525 headline the 32-man field.
Shame on you, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia and Danny “One hit wonder” Willett for qualifying for the tournament BUT not having the time to show up.
Other notable players that are playing include Bubba Watson +2000, Brandt Snedeker +2000, Branden Grace +3650 and the trio of young guns, Justin Thomas +2000, Daniel Berger +2800 and Si Woo Kim +5000.
The Course: The Plantation Course at Kapalua
Plantation Course at Kapalua has been the host course since 1999. The layout measures 7,452 yards and plays to a par 73, the only par-73 on the PGA Tour. One of the first Bill Coore-Ben Crenshaw collaborations, the Plantation course opened in 1991 and offers some of the most breathtaking views of the entire season. The only defense the course has is the wind and in most years, the trade winds stay gentle enough for the winner to approach 20-under par. Last year Jordan Spieth reached 30-under par.

ODDS ANALYSIS:
CHALK - Hideki Matsuyama +550 is playing some great golf and has finally learned how to win. A change in his putting set-up have the 24-year old on the verge of climbing into the top five in the world. The Japanese star has four wins, a second and a T6 in his last six events. The FedExCup points leader is the world’s hottest player on the planet right now. He also has a T3 in his only prior visit to Kapalua in 2015.
SLEEPER - I love Pat Perez at +7500 and love him in the weekly golf matchups. He Won Mayakoba in third start after returning from shoulder surgery and comes in to 2017 poised to have a great year. He finished T10 in 2010 so he knows the course and can stay aggressive and free wheel it.
