The European Tour travels to Spain this week for the Open de Espana. Spain’s national golf championship returns to Real Club de Golf El Prat for the first time since 2011, and it marks the sixth time it’s played host to the country’s national Open.
Sergio Garcia makes his second straight appearance in his country’s national open, looking to win it for the second time. Garcia nearly won THE PLAYERS last week, losing in a playoff that Rickie Fowler eventually won. Garcia will be the betting favorite and is clearly the best player in the field. The only thing that could hold the Spaniard back is fatigue from the long trip over from the United States.
Other notable players participating this week in Spain include Tommy Fleetwood ( +2550 ), Victor Dubuisson ( +3350 ) and defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez ( +4750 ).

Francesco Molinari ( +3750 ) appears to be healthy and over a wrist injury, although his only start in the last month was the recent WGC-Cadillac Match Play where a first-round exit didn’t reveal too much. He won this event in 2012 and in six other start’s he has three other top 10’s and a T24. The Italian loves playing in Spain and has had huge success here.
Englishman David Howell ( +4050 ) is one of the European Tour’s hottest players after two runner-up finishes and a T4 in his last six events. He finished T11 ( 1998 ) and T46 ( 1999 ) at the old El Prat but this is his first look at Greg Norman’s new design. Take advantage of Howell’s hot play by betting on him in the golf matchups.
Thomas Bjorn ( +6050 ) is not in good form having missed two cuts in a row and heading to a place that he has never played. Bjorn has had success in Spain, winning in 1998, but his current form has me fading him this week.
Victor Dubuisson ( +3350 ) is in a funk and playing some really bad golf. This kid is the most OVERRATED player on any tour. Dubuisson has played only three events since January, missing the cut at the Masters, going 0-3 at the Cadillac Match Play and finishing T63 at Doral where there is no cut. He withdrew from last week’s PLAYERS Championship, making it the fourth withdrawal of the year. Now does that sound like the world No.22? Something isn’t right with the Frenchman and that’s why I will continue to FADE him.
