PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker +3500 and Ryder Cup teammates Brooks Koepka +1500 and Ryan Moore +1400 headline this week’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open which gets started Thursday in Las Vegas. The field also boasts six of the top 36 in the current world rankings. Defending champion Smylie Kaufman +7999 is also scheduled to play.
Walker has not played well since his epic win, although he did contribute a few points at the Ryder Cup. Moore is a Las Vegas resident and knows the course very well. Koepka loves playing in the desert having won in Phoenix. Last year’s runner-up, Kevin Na +2800 is also in the field and a player that thrives in the desert, but always seems to come up short.
The scoring will be low and possibly as low as 20-under par could be the magic number for victory. Last year Smylie Kaufman shot a final round 61 to come from seven shots back to claim the title and earn his first PGA Tour win in only his fifth career start.
The Course: TPC Summerlin will host the event for the 25th year. The layout measures 7,255 yards and plays to a par 71. The course was designed by Bobby Weed and two-time major champion Fuzzy Zoeller. The desert track will yield a ton of birdies and has several risk, reward holes, including the drivable par-4 15th which will only add drama to the finish.
First time winners do well in Las Vegas. Ten of the last 14 winners in Vegas have been first timers.

Scott Piercy +2550 is a local resident and often times is overlooked. The dude has game! He plays well at home as well with three top 10’s and another pair of top 25s in his last six starts in the desert. Piercy started this year with a T3 at the Safeway Open and a T10 at the CIMB Classic.
Grayson Murray +5000 led the Web.com Tour in scoring last year and proved that he can play with the big boys with a T8 last week in Mississippi. The rookie hits it a mile and has the confidence to get the job done in Vegas.
