The PGA Tour stays in Hawaii this week for the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Jordan Spieth is the top choice in the betting at odds of +450, while Justin Thomas is listed at +750. Unlike last week’s event in Kapalua, that was a winner’s only event, this week’s tournament has a full field. Spieth and Thomas will get most of the attention, but a number of other players could contend for the win this week. Let’s look at the tournament and predictions.

Odds Analysis
Jordan Spieth +450
Spieth finished in third place in this event last year and all four of his rounds were 68 or better. He leads the PGA Tour in GIR and he is sixth in shots gained: tee-to-green. We are not getting much value with Spieth at odds of +450, but it is hard to argue with him as the favorite.
Justin Thomas +750
Thomas is the defending champion but he didn’t play well last week at Kapalua and I don’t know that he can turn it around in just one week. He will have a new caddy again this week, as he gets Phil Mickelson’s former caddy, Jim “Bones” Mackay who has been doing golf commentary. I think Thomas is overvalued at these odds.
Marc Leishman +1450
Leishman tied for 7th last week and he has made five straight cuts at the Sony. He has finished in the top 7 a total of five times in his last seven starts. Leishman has more value than either Spieth or Thomas this week.
Brian Harman +1850
I have realized that I need to start paying more attention to Harman than I have in the past. Harman just continues to play well and prove that he can compete with the best golfers in the world. He was in the mix last week at Kapalua and this course in Honolulu suits him better.
Kevin Kisner +2250
Kisner doesn’t rank that highly in shots gained: tee-to-green but he sure has done well on this course the past two years, finishing in a tie for 5th and a tie for 4th. Kisner could have some value at these odds.
Gary Woodland +3350
Why not Woodland at a big price this week? In his last three starts at Waialae, he has finished T-6, T-13 and T-3. If he gets hot and Spieth falters then perhaps Woodland could be in the mix.
Russell Henley +3350
He won the Sony in 2013, so we know he can play well on this course. The concern is that he isn’t putting as well as normal. I think that changes this week and that Henley is in the mix on Sunday.
Chez Reavie +5050
My longshot this week is Reavie who tied for 8th in this event last year. He is in the top 25 in shots gained: tee-to-green and in his last eight starts he has finished in the top 25 a total of seven times.
Course: Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii is a par 70 that measures just 7,044 yards. Birdies will be plentiful this week, as the course ranked as the 8th-easiest on the PGA Tour last season. Unlike last week, where distance was very important, this week it is all about hitting greens. Last year the top four finishes all ranked in the top four in strokes gained: tee to green.
