The Greenbrier Classic Matchup Odds and Picks

2017-GOLF-The-Greenbrier-Classic-To-Win-PGA-Bet-Online

Patrick Reed is the favorite to win The Greenbrier Classic, which gets underway on Thursday. The Old White TPC course was rebuilt after last year’s flood but scoring should still be excellent, although players may have to get used to the new greens. The course is still a par 70 and the distance of 7,286 yards should benefit the longer hitters, especially with the wide fairways. We’ll look to improve on last week’s 2-2 record with this week’s matchup picks.

The Greenbrier Classic Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Old White TPC has some of the easiest fairways to hit on the PGA Tour so driving accuracy is not a big stat this week. The course is not that long but long hitters should still have an edge. The greens are going to be different so I don’t know how much stock to put in putting stats this week. One key stat this week will be Strokes Gained: Tee to Green and another one is Par 4 Scoring.

D. Lingmerth -108 vs. P. Mickelson

I don’t think Lingmerth is getting enough respect, as he has been playing as well as anyone in the field lately. He had a chance to go wire-to-wire last week but faltered in the final round. Mickelson hasn’t been in contention for a win in a long while, he could be rusty, as he hasn’t played since Memphis, and he hasn’t been anything special at Greenbrier. I will take Lingmerth in this matchup.

T. Finau -117 vs. K. Bradley

I think Greenbrier is the perfect spot for Finau to get a win. He played well there as a rookie two years ago and his length will be a big plus. He is 11th on the PGA Tour in driving distance and sixth in GIR. He is also 8th in our stat of the week, Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green. Bradley got me last week in one of the matchups but I am going against him again this week.

JB Holmes -132 vs. J. Walker

The distance of Holmes should be a big plus this week because the fairways are so easy to hit. Holmes has four top 30 finishes on this course in five tries. Walker has missed the cut in his last two events and hasn’t played well in a long while. I will take Holmes in this matchup.

H. English -110 vs. B. Martin

English has made four of his last five cuts including a tie for 22nd last week. English is ranked almost 100 spots ahead of Martin in the latest World rankings. I will lay the small number and take English in this matchup.

J. Lovemark -151 vs. Si Woo Kim

Lovemark is 40th on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Tee-to-Green and I don’t know what has happened to Kim. He is 190th in that category and he has been all or nothing with a win at The Players and a 13th at the U.S. Open, but a withdrawal at The Memorial and a missed cut last week. I will lay the price and take Lovemark.
