Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the top betting choices to win the Travelers Championship, which begins on Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Surprisingly, there are a lot of big names competing the week after the U.S. Open, as joining Spieth and McIlroy are Jason Day, Justin Thomas, Paul Casey, Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson, among others. Let’s take a look at this week’s odds and matchups and see if we can improve upon last week’s 3-3 mark.

Travelers Championship Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. TPC River Highlands is a relatively easy course, as was evidenced by the fact that Jim Furyk shot a PGA Tour record 58 in last year’s final round. Golfers who are best in shots gained on approach and around the greens will be the top contenders to win this week.
M. Leishman -133 vs. B. Watson
Leishman is 7th on the PGA Tour in adjusted scoring and he is 28th in bogey avoidance. He won this tournament in 2012 and he tied for 9th last year. I know what Bubba likes playing at TPC River Highlands, as his scoring average since 2008 is 67.19 but Bubba hasn’t played that well this season. He does have four Top 10 finishes but he also has missed six cuts. I will take Leishman in this matchup.
B. Snedeker -125 vs. B. Watson
I am going against Watson in two matchups this week. TPC River Highlands doesn’t demand length so Snedeker should do well, especially since he is really putting well. He has three straight Top 25 finishes in this event including a Top 10 two years ago.
C. Hoffman -107 vs. B. Harman
How can Harman play well this week after what can only be a letdown after not winning the U.S. Open? Hoffman has two finishes in the Top 20 in this event since 2010 and he quietly finished 8th last week at the U.S. Open. I expect a letdown from Harman and I think he could struggle to make the cut, while Hoffman might contend for the win.
W. Simpson -135 vs. E. Grillo
It has been a solid season for Simpson, as he is 35th in FedExCup points and he is 11th in Shots Gained: Approach and 18th in Shots Gained: Around the Green. He is going against Grillo who has had one finish in the Top 20 in his last seven events.
R. Palmer -125 vs. Danny Lee
The last matchup I am going with this week is Palmer over Lee. Palmer has a big edge in two of the top categories, Shots Gained: Approach and Shots Gained: Around the Green over Lee. I will lay the small price and take Palmer in this matchup.
