U.S. Open Matchup Odds and Picks

2017-GOLF-US-Open-Matchup-Odds-PGA-Betting-Odds

If you like to bet matchups then this is the week for you, as there are numerous matchups on the board for the U.S. Open, which begins on Thursday at Erin Hills, just outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Golf’s second major of the year has Dustin Johnson listed as the favorite, but surprisingly, he is an underdog in one of his matchups. It was a tough week for some top players last week, including Rickie Fowler and it was also a tough week for our picks. We’ll look to have a big bounce back in the U.S. Open.

U.S. Open Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Erin Hills has never hosted a U.S. Open so we don’t know exactly what to expect. The course plays really long so length is going to be critical. Driving accuracy isn’t a must, as the fairways are extremely wide but if players do miss they are going to get penalized severely, as the rough is deep. Wind could be a factor, although the forecast is pretty good for the weekend.

Jason Day -105 vs. Jordan Spieth

One of my top picks to win this week is Jason Day, as he has finally focused on golf now that his mother is doing well. He has five Top 10 finishes in six U.S. Open starts. Spieth has played better of late but his win in 2015 at Chambers Bay is his only top 15 U.S. Open finish in five starts.

Justin Rose -115 vs. Sergio Garcia

This course should really suit Rose who is one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour. He has excellent length and he dominates par 4’s. He finished runner-up in the Masters and it would not be a surprise to see him win this week. He goes against Sergio who finally won his major by winning the Masters. Even though Sergio won the Masters he is still prone to a bad round and I don’t expect him to contend at Erin Hills.

Byeong Hun An -125 vs. Billy Horschel

Erin Hills should be a good course for An who has a lot of length. He has played well of late and goes against Horschel who may struggle on this course because he is not a big hitter.

Pat Perez -143 vs. Kevin Na

Perez has had an excellent season, as he ranks 42nd in the world rankings. This is more of a play against Na who has already complained about the rough at Erin Hills. It is almost a given Na is going to shoot a big score on at least one hole, which should doom his chances.

David Lingmerth -132 vs. Kevin Na

I am going against Na in both of his matches this week, which means I am taking Lingmerth here.

Brendan Steele -137 vs. Webb Simpson

One of the top drivers on the PGA Tour is Steele who ranks 9th in total driving. He is always around the hole, as he is 41st in greens in regulation. He is also sixth in bogey avoidance and No. 1 in scrambling. He could contend for the win this week and he should beat Simpson in this matchup.
