Finger Lakes Gaming and Race Track isn't a track we generally talk about all that often, but this is the time of year where you can really get a good sense of who will be big shots on the NYRA circuit for some time to come. The winner of the New York Breeders' Futurity is going to have a great chance to move up the ranks next year as a three-year old and have a shot at qualifying for the Kentucky Derby through the Derby prep races.

The great thing about the New York Breeders' Futurity is the fact that everything to do with this race is local. Local riders are mounting locally bred horses owned by local owners.
Championofthenile is the clear favorite of the six in this field at 2 to 1, but it isn't that far back to get to Love That Jazz and Dr. Shane. Mind Your Biscuits, Saratoga Giro and Sky Devil round out this field, but with the longshot on the outside coming in at 10 to 1, there is a legitimate chance for any of these six to hit the board.
FAVORITE TO FOLLOW
Remember Pioneer of the Nile? We're only a few short years removed from him being a Triple Crown contending colt. His offspring haven't been great thus far, but the breeding of Championofthenile really looks strong.
There's a real chance that Championofthenile is going to be a lot stronger now that he is racing at the tiny Finger Lakes rather than the big tracks at Belmont and Saratoga as has been the case early in his career.
This pony has run two straight Beyers in the 90s, and it's rare that any colt can say that who is running at Finger Lakes.
If there is a colt in this field who can legitimately take the massive step to winning the Kentucky Derby in a few short months, Championofthenile is it.
UNDERDOG TO WATCH
Love That Jazz is really just the second favorite, but in this case, we think he is a notable pony to watch out for, knowing that his one race here at Finger Lakes was a good one. He won the Aspirant Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths over a field which included Dr. Shane last month to become one of the favorites in this one. We're not thrilled with no-name jockey John Davila Jr., but the fact that Joel Rosario, Jose Ortiz and J.J. Castellano have all ridden this pony before gives us hope.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
It's not often you see us just blindly accept that the favorite is the best horse in any field, but in this case, it isn't even close. If Championofthenile runs at his best, he legitimately could end up running roughshod over this field, much like he did in his second offering when he blew threw his maiden race by six furlongs and was hand-ridden all the way to the finish line.
There just isn't another colt in this field we trust as much as this one.
