Conor McGregor Update

Conor-McGregor-update-bm-tw

Conor McGregor will have a chance to make history at UFC 205 as he looks to become the first fighter to hold two belts at the same time. McGregor is the current featherweight title holder and he will be challenging Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205 in New York on November 12th. Fighters have won titles in different weight classes in the past but no fighter has ever held two UFC titles at the same time.

McGregor Wants Both Titles

UFC President Dana White has said that if McGregor beats Alvarez at UFC 205 (McGregor is a -145 favorite at BookMaker.eu) he will have to give up one of the titles but McGregor said that is not going to happen. "They're going to have to gather an army and take one of them off me and that's out straight," McGregor said, "One's gonna be there, one's gonna be there and I'm going to be picking and choosing who I want to destroy next and that's it."

McGregor really should not be holding the featherweight title right now as it has been almost a year since he beat Jose Aldo. This will be the third straight fight for McGregor outside of the featherweight division so he has no business holding the title. For what it is worth, White said that McGregor will have to give up one of the belts.

“You can't hold them both. He'll have accomplished this, and then he'll have to figure out which one he wants to give up,” said White. “You can't tie up two divisions for that long.”

Aldo would seem to be a logical opponent for McGregor but Aldo is fed up with the UFC and wants out. "I see that I can't trust any word from the president Dana White and that who is in charge of the event is Conor McGregor," Aldo said. "As I'm not here to be an employee of McGregor, today I ask to cancel my contract with the UFC.”

McGregor Likely Done in Nevada

White said that McGregor won’t fight again in the state of Nevada after the Nevada Athletic Commission fined McGregor $150,000 for his actions in the UFC 202 press conference with Nate Diaz.

"Insanity. It's insane," White said, "Listen, we're regulated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. I don't know if these guys don't get together and talk before they go in and do these things."

White said that McGregor doesn’t need to fight in Nevada. "Conor McGregor doesn't need Nevada," White said. "He can fight anywhere. He can fight in Iowa. We could put his fight off the coast of anywhere. This makes no sense for the state. It's terrible."

Cerrone and Mousasi Rip McGregor

It is obvious based on the recent comments made by Donald Cerrone that McGregor is not well liked or respected by other UFC fighters. “I just tune him out, because behind the scenes he is like a scared little kid.” Cerrone said, "He's not one of the fellas, he's not a good dude. It is what it is. He does a good job promoting the sport, he does a good job of making money. So I can't hate the guy for that, but just as a person he ain't a fan of mine."

As much as other fighters dislike McGregor they can’t argue with his success. More than three million pay-per-views were sold combined on the last two McGregor fights.

"He's definitely good for the sport. He's got a lot of eyes. He brings a lot of people," Cerrone said. "So my hat's off to him for that, but just like hang with him like a fella, no, he'd never be my buddy."

Gegard Mousasi said that McGregor is good for the sport but only because people are stupid. "McGregor's good for the sport but what is it. You had Muhammad Ali, he was a hero, he was besides a great boxer, he did a lot, he did big things. Now you have (Floyd) Mayweather and Conor McGregor — 'I have money, I have money' — and everybody loves it. That sells. People are stupid. What can I say? They don't know who's a real fighter or not. They just like to see expensive stuff on Instagram probably."
