Light heavyweights get the spotlight this weekend in London at UFC Fight Night 107, so it is the perfect time to look at the latest power rankings for that division. Daniel Cormier is the current UFC champion with a record of 18-1 and he leads the light heavyweight power rankings. Cormier will defend his title at UFC 210 on April 8, as he takes on Anthony Johnson. Let’s look at MMA power rankings for the light heavyweight division.

Light Heavyweight Division

  1. Daniel Cormier – The current champion is Cormier and he tops the rankings. He has a record of 18-1 and is coming off a win against Anderson Silva. Perhaps Cormier will eventually take on Jon Jones but who knows, as Jones is suspended until July. Cormier is favored against Anthony Johnson at UFC 210.
  2. Jon Jones – The overall record for Jones is 22-1 but when will we see him fight? He has fought just twice since 2015 and he won’t be fighting anytime soon, as he is suspended until July.
  3. Anthony Johnson – The overall record for Johnson is 22-5, but he looked really good at UFC 202 with a win over Glover Teixeira and he is getting a title shot against Cormier in April at UFC 210.
  4. Phil Davis – The current Bellator champion in the light heavyweight division is Davis who is 17-3 in his career. He dominated Liam McGeary who was the champion, so it might be tough to find quality opposition for Davis in Bellator.
  5. Ryan Bader – It looks like Bader is going to move from the UFC to Bellator. That would make sense and it would set up a fight between Bader and Davis for the light heavyweight title. Bader is 22-5 in his career and coming off a win against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
  6. Alexander Gustafsson – He got a win last time out against Jan Blachowicz, although it was not impressive. Gustafsson is 17-4 in his career.
  7. Glover Teixeira – He grinded out a decision in his last fight, as he defeated Jared Cannonier at UFC 208. Teixeira is 26-5 in his career. Teixeira and Gustafsson will headline UFC Fight Night 109 on May 28.
  8. Liam McGeary – The first loss for McGeary came against Davis but McGeary bounced back to defeat Brett McDermott at Bellator 173. The next fight for McGeary will be against Linton Vassell at Bellator 179 on May 19. McGeary is 11-1 in his career.
  9. Jimi Manuwa – He will be taking on Corey Anderson on Saturday, March 18 at UFC Fight Night 107 in London. Manuwa is listed as a -145 favorite at BookMaker.eu. Manuwa is 16-2 in his career and coming off a win against Ovince Saint Preux.
  10. Misha Cirkunov – He has looked good in his UFC action, going 4-0 with four finishes. He is 13-2 in his career, including 4-0 in the UFC. He will take on Volkan Oezdemir at UFC Fight Night 109 on May 28.

The big event that could shake up the rankings is UFC 210 that will take place in Buffalo, New York at the KeyBank Center on April 8. UFC 210 is headlined by Daniel Cormier taking on Anthony Johnson. It is a rematch of a fight that occurred at UFC 187 in 2015 that was won by Cormier. The two fighters were supposed to meet at UFC 206 but Cormier pulled out due to injury.

Cormier is considered one of the top wrestlers in MMA while Johnson is a powerful striker. In their first fight it was Cormier getting Johnson to the ground and getting a submission. The same thing could happen at UFC 210 if Cormier is able to withstand the early blitz by Johnson.

Cormier said he is not happy with the poster promoting UFC 210, as it shows Johnson in a big way in the background, while Cormier is smaller in the front. “What is this? How many favors did ‘Rumble’ have to call in to make this [expletive] happen?” Cormier said, “Just remember last time the challenger looked so big on the poster RDA [Rafael dos Anjos) beat “Cowboy” [Cerrone] in one round.”
