The featherweight division gets the spotlight in this week’s UFC action with Anthony Pettis taking on Max Holloway at UFC 206 on Saturday night in Toronto. The winner of this fight will get a chance against the champion, Jose Aldo sometime next year. With Conor McGregor now out of the featherweight division, Aldo is the top ranked fighter in the division followed by Frankie Edgar, Holloway, Pettis and Ricardo Lamas.

UFC Featherweight Rankings

1. Jose Aldo – The current champion is Aldo even though he was beaten for the title by McGregor. Aldo has only lost twice in his career as he has a record of 28-2 including 8-1 in the UFC. Aldo will face the winner of Pettis and Holloway sometime next year.

2. Frankie Edgar – He is 21-5-1 in his career including 5-1 in the UFC but he has already been beaten by Aldo so he is going to have to wait for his next title shot with the winner of Holloway vs. Pettis getting the first chance.

3. Max Holloway – He is 16-3 in his career including 12-3 in the UFC and he has already beaten Lamas, Stephens and Oliveira but now he gets a big test against Pettis at UFC 206. Holloway is listed as a -170 favorite vs. Pettis at BookMaker.eu.

4. Anthony Pettis – He comes into this fight at 19-5 in his career and 6-4 in the UFC. Whether he is up to the task of taking on Holloway is in question but at least Pettis is coming off a win over Oliveira. The winner of the bout between Holloway and Pettis will be the interim featherweight champion and then get a fight against Aldo next year.

Pettis is a former UFC lightweight champion but after three straight losses he moved down in weight. He beat Oliveira in August at featherweight and Pettis believes it was a great decision to change weight classes. “My first performance at featherweight was a trial,” he said, “The need for power isn’t as much as the need for speed. I’m definitely working on being quick and being agile so we can go five rounds at 145 pounds against a guy like Max”

5. Ricardo Lamas – Lamas has won two of his last three fights but the one loss was to Holloway. Lamas is 17-5 in his career including 8-3 in the UFC.

6. Cub Swanson – He has won his last two fights and his overall record is 23-7 including 8-3 in the UFC but Swanson has yet to prove he can handle the top fighters in the division. He will be taking on Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 on Saturday night.

7. Jeremy Stephens – He has lost two of his past three fights although the defeats were to Edgar and Holloway. Stephens is 25-13 in his career including 12-12 in the UFC.

8. Charles Oliveira – He has lost his past two fights against Pettis and Lamas. He is 21-7 overall and 9-7 in the UFC.

9. Dennis Bermudez – He is coming off wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Rony Jason to improve his record of 16-5 overall and 9-3 in the UFC.

10. Brian Ortega – He is on the way up in the rankings as he is 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Thiago Tavares, Diego Brandao and Clay Guida.

11. Yair Rodriguez – He is 3-0 in his last three fights to improve his overall record to 8-1 including 5-0 in the UFC.

12. Doo Ho Choi – He is 14-1 overall and 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Juan Manuel Puig, Sam Sicilia and Thiago Tavares. He will get a chance to move up in the rankings as he takes on Cub Swanson on Saturday at UFC 206.

13. Mirsad Bektic – He is unbeaten in his career at 11-0 including 4-0 on the UFC.

14. Darren Elkins – He is 21-5 in his career including 11-4 in the UFC.

15. Renan Barao – The UFC veteran is 34-4 in his career including 9-3 in the UFC.
