Final 2016 MMA Rankings

MMA-Open-tom-dec-26

The last UFC event of 2016 is UFC 207 on Friday, December 30th so now is the perfect time to look at the final MMA rankings of 2016 as the rankings will change next year. Demetrious Johnson is the top fighter in the flyweight division and he is also considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Dominick Cruz is the top-ranked fighter in the bantamweight division but he will have to get past Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 to retain that ranking. Let’s look at the top 10 from all eight men’s divisions and the top 10 from the two women’s divisions.

Bet on UFC at BookMaker.eu

Flyweight

1. Demetrious Johnson – UFC Champion

2. Joseph Benavidez

3. Henry Cejudo

4. Kyoji Horiguchi

5. Wilson Reis

6. Brandon Moreno

7. Louis Smolka

8. Jussier da Silva

9. Justin Scoggins

10. Chico Camus

Johnson has taken the top spot in this division for years and there are no real challengers who pose a serious threat.

Bantamweight

1. Dominick Cruz – UFC Champion

2. T.J. Dillashaw

3. Marlon Moraes

4. Cody Garbrandt

5. Bibiano Fernandes

6. Eduardo Dantas

7. Jimmie Rivera

8. John Lineker

9. Raphael Assuncao

10. Bryan Caraway

Cruz will be defending his title at UFC 207 against Garbrandt on December 30th while Dillashaw will also be in action as he takes on Lineker.

Featherweight

1. Conor McGregor

2. Jose Aldo – UFC Champion

3. Max Holloway – UFC Interim Champion

4. Ricardo Lamas

5. Frankie Edgar

6. Anthony Pettis

7. Daniel Straus

8. Cub Swanson

9. Jeremy Stephens

10. Charles Oliveira

I am still putting McGregor at the top of this division even though he had to give up the belt. Aldo should be taking on Holloway sometime next year for the division title.

Lightweight

1. Conor McGregor – UFC Champion

2. Khabib Nurmagomedov

3. Tony Ferguson

4. Eddie Alvarez

5. Justin Gaethje

6. Rafael dos Anjos

7. Michael Chiesa

8. Edson Barboza

9. Beneil Dariush

10. Nate Diaz

McGregor keeps his lightweight belt so he is also the top ranked fighter in this division. We won’t be seeing McGregor in action until sometime next year.

Welterweight

1. Tyron Woodley – UFC Champion

2. Stephen Thompson

3. Robbie Lawler

4. Demian Maia

5. Rory MacDonald

6. Ben Askren

7. Carlos Condit

8. Donald Cerrone

9. Johny Hendricks

10. Dong Hyun Kim

Woodley retained the title with a draw against Thompson so it could be that these two will fight again sometime in 2017.

Middleweight

1. Michael Bisping – UFC Champion

2. Luke Rockhold

3. Yoel Romero

4. Jacare Souza

5. Gegard Mousasi

6. Robert Whittaker

7. David Branch

8. Derek Brunson

9. Chris Weidman

10. Vitor Belfort

There are not many challengers to Bisping right now as he has already beaten Rockhold.

Light Heavyweight

1. Jon Jones

2. Daniel Cormier – UFC Champion

3. Anthony Johnson

4. Phil Davis

5. Ryan Bader

6. Alexander Gustafsson

7. Glover Teixeira

8. Jimi Manuwa

9. Liam McGeary

10. Ovince St. Preux

This division has Jones as the top ranked fighter but Cormier is the champion because Jones is still suspended.

Heavyweight

1. Stipe Miocic – UFC Champion

2. Fabricio Werdum

3. Cain Velasquez

4. Junior dos Santos

5. Ben Rothwell

6. Travis Browne

7. Alistair Overeem

8. Vitaly Minakov

9. Josh Barnett

10. Andrei Arlovski

It was supposed to be Werdum taking on Velasquez at UFC 207 but Velasquez was declared unfit to fight so we still don’t have any challenger in the division for Miocic.

Women’s Strawweight

1. Joanna Jedrzejczyk – UFC Champion

2. Claudia Gadelha

3. Karolina Kowalkiewicz

4. Alexa Grasso

5. Carla Esparza

6. Tecia Torres

7. Rose Namajunas

8. Angela Hill

9. Jessica Andrade

10. Valerie Letourneau

This division is dominated by Jedrzejczyk with no challengers waiting in the wings.

4. Julianna Pena

5. Holly Holm

6. Raquel Pennington

8. Cat Zingano

9. Sara McMann

10. Tonya Evinger

This division will get the spotlight at UFC 207 on Friday night with Rousey listed as a -137 favorite at BookMaker.eu.
