Nunes and Jedrzejczyk Top Women’s MMA Power Rankings

2017-UFC-Nunes-Vs-Jedrzejczyk-Betting-Odds

The women get the spotlight this weekend at UFC 208 in New York so it is a perfect time to look at the latest women’s MMA power rankings. Amanda Nunes is the UFC bantamweight champion and she holds the top spot in that division while Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the strawweight champion and holds the top spot in the rankings in that division. UFC 208 on Saturday debuts a new division, the featherweight division as Holly Holm takes on Germaine de Randamie for the first-ever featherweight title. Let’s look at the rankings for the bantamweight and strawweight divisions.

Women’s Bantamweight Rankings

1. Amanda Nunes – UFC Champion

Nunes is 14-4 and the clear choice at the top of the rankings after she defeated Ronda Rousey at UFC 207.

2. Valentina Shevchenko

The clear challenger to Nunes is Shevchenko who is 14-2 in her career after beating Julianna Pena last month. The problem for Shevchenko is that she already has a loss to Nunes in her career.

3. Holly Holm

Holm is still listed in this division until we have enough fighters to rank in the featherweight division. Holm takes on Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208 on Saturday night.

4. Julianna Pena

Pena was not good enough to defeat Shevchenko but there is no shame in that loss. She still deserves to be highly ranked.

5 Germaine de Randamie

We will find out if de Randamie is worthy of his ranking as she faces a true test on Saturday against Holm. Bookmaker.eu has de Randamie listed as a -123 favorite at UFC 208.

6. Raquel Pennington

Pennington has won her last four fights and seems to have turned the corner. She could be in line for a big fight soon.

7. Sara McMann

She is 11-3 in her career and has a chance to get back into the spotlight if she can defeat Gina Mazany later this month.

8. Cat Zingano

She has a record of 9-2 but she takes way too long to come back after losses. If she would fight on a regular basis she could easily move up in the rankings.

9. Tonya Evinger

The current Invicta FC Champion is Evinger who has not lost since 2011. She was submitted by Yana Kunitskaya in November but that loss was overturned due to a referee error.

10. Ronda Rousey

I am still putting Rousey in the rankings although it is looking more and more like she is done fighting.

Women’s Strawweight Rankings

1. Joanna Jedrzejczyk – UFC Champion

She is the best women’s fighter at any weight right now as she is 13-0 with no real challengers on the horizon.

2. Claudia Gadelha

Unfortunately for Gadelha she is in the wrong division as her only two losses have come to Jedrzejczyk. Gadelha has a record of 14-2 but another title shot doesn’t seem likely anytime soon.

3. Karolina Kowalkiewicz

The only loss for Kowalkiewicz in her career came to Jedrzejczyk and there is definitely no shame in that loss.

4. Carla Esparza

She defeated Juliana Lima last April to improve to 11-3. She takes on Randa Markos next month in what should be another win.

5. Rose Namajunas

She has a record of 5-3 but she still could be improving and a loss to Kowalkiewicz is nothing to be ashamed about.

6. Jessica Andrade

The next title contender in this division could be Andrade who is now 16-5 and coming off a dominating win over Angela Hill.

7. Tecia Torres

She has a record of 8-1 and is coming off a good win over Bec Rawling last time out.

8. Jessica Aguilar

She is 33-years old but this division isn’t that strong and against anyone other than the top three she has a chance to win.

9. Alexa Grasso

The unbeaten streak is over for Grasso who was shocked by Felice Herrig in her last fight.

10. Michelle Waterson

She is coming off a good win against Paige VanZant and is back on the radar in this division.
